atkins diet and eca stack?

freeweight

New member
just wondering if taking xenadrine or hydroxycut will affect the atkins diet. supposedly you are to have no caffeine while on diet. what do you think?

this would be because mr atkins says tha cafeine has insuline like effects. (see another thread on at the moment 2 below this)

I for one dont believe this, and think using a eca stack is fine while on a keto type diet.

Try it and find out, i haven't really heard of anyone trying this. Because caffiene mimics insulin i think it knocks a lot of people out of ketosis. I wouldn't know. I haven't touched caffiene in 3 years.

Caffeine is NOT insulogenic. I repeat caffeine is NOT insulogenic, and this is not a matter of opinion or interpretation, but it is a biochemical fact that caffeine actually OPPOSES the action of insulin. The only time you might want to avoid this is when you're trying to establish ketosis (because the caffeine increases preferential burning of fat over glucose therefore increasing the amount of time required to achieve ketosis). Once you're in ketosis, this preferential burning of fat if a desirable side effect of caffeine. The only other people who should go easy on the caffeine are type 2 diabetics or people with impaired insulin sensitivity. Again, this is not because caffeine is insulogenic, but merely because it IMPAIRS the action of insulin, which is already impaired in type 2's. Since I suspect a lot of folks on Atkin's diets are pretty insulin insensitive, the advice to avoid caffeine may be sound advice, at least until normal insulin sensitivity is retored. But if you're insulin sensitivity is good and you're in ketosis then ECA kicks ass!

Like the rest of the board, I think Dr. Atkins assertation is absurd.

Take the ECA stack.

Also, I would avoid a carb free diet. In my experience it will rip muscle off of you at a rate that rivals your fat loss.

I would go with a carb depletion, or low carb plan, but NOT this unless you are morbidly obese or don't mind losing your last 4-5 months of hard earned muscle ...

What assertion? All he says is to not use it during Induction which is designed to induce Ketosis....exactly what MS just said.

Well, I have been doing the semi-Atkins diet for 2 weeks now. I work nights so I cannot go without caffeine. I jave been taking ripped fuel on a regular basis and haven't com out of Ketosis. I haven't even come close actually. On one day I only got 3 hours of sleep and had a 12 hour night at work so I had to get a cup of coffee with all the Ripped Fuel.

Still didn't come out of Ketosis. I am still in the induction phase and been in Ketosis since day 3. Like I said though, it is a semi Atkins because I need the caffeine. I haven't been on a scale in 4 days, but the first 10 days I had already lost 6 pounds.

I don't know about everyone else, but caffeine doesn't seem to be holding me back at all. Of course I do drink 128 ounces of water a day with it.

thanks bros, it has been awhile since i posted on here, but it seems like we still have some good guys on here. the last time i was on the atkins diet i dropped 20-25 lbs in about five weeks. of course i was working out five days a wk, and doing cardio 3-4 days a week. i was taking xenadrine as well as on a good cycle. i had super results except for getting lightheaded some. my checkup at the doc revealed that at the time i had real low blood sugar. after an ass chewing from the doc, he said that i had to put some sugar in my body daily. i figure that it was the low carb diet that had my blood sugar real low. thanks for your replys.

I believe Mr Atkins' main problem with caffeine is that it is habit forming. He wants you to avoid it to help you also get rid of your other habits such as suger. It's a psychological move. It's kinda along the line with rehab. They make you quit addictive behaviors too.

Caffeine has not been established at any point to increase the time needed to achieve ketosis. Period. If you think it has, show me a study that supports Dr. Atkins' assertion.

Like i said, i didn't know why Atkins says to avoid caffeine. However, after looking it up it turns out that EXCESSIVE caffeine can cause low blood sugar so i imagine it has something to do with that. Since its a controlled carbohydrate diet its probably best to avoid something that can bring you blood sugar down to low.
