Atificial Sweeteners and KETO - Help

For all those wondering I thought i'd run an experiment last night while watching a movie with the gf. I had some diet coke, this morning i'm (as of the keto stix) no longer in keto. Now, How do I get myself back there ASAP???????

Could it be possible that you are still in Keto and that the chemicals are simply throwing off the strips??

Sorry, no clue on how you'd get back into that state asap... maybe some CKD guru's could chime in?!

Depends on the person but aspartame and other sweetners can kick people out of keto, and some people and drink a whole nottle of diet soda and stay in it.

I wouldnt say there is a special way to jump back into it, just keep your carbs under 20 today, and maybe throw in some extra cardio or some extra sets to burn everything off and get you back into keto. Thats about the only way to do it, just lay off the diet sodas. I can drink a whole pitcher of crystal light, or a couple glasses of diet soda, and be fine. Also try the diet sodas that use splenda instead of aspartame and some of the other sweetners.

Ok, perhaps in a day or so i'll try some crystal light. Question, when i kick myself out of keto like that does that mean i'm back to storing fat or does it just mean i'm not buring fat as 'efficantly' as if i were in keto. I ask because so many of these atkins diets use the low carb high fat/pro diet to burn fat right, well if they are still consuming like 30-50g carbs (plus sugar alcohols) then are they really in keto? And if not they are still burning fat, some at least (my uncle ran an atkins for 2-3months, kept his cardio the same and lost some decent weight).

And I know atkins insn't for bodybuilders, not better way to loose that muscle! (without the carbups)

Technically everyone is different, the under 20 carbs is really to drop u into keto fast, many people can stay below 80 carbs and be in keto. Just because you got kicked out, it just means you body is fuctioning normally, so your progress may be slowed for the day, but its not the end of the world unless youve been eating carbs all day. Plus the strips r just a guideline, if you drink too much water before u test u can come up out of keto, they are VERY touchy. Just stick to your diet and workouts and dont worry to much about the strips, they are like the scale...can make you crazy, and there are too many factors to give you the whole picture.

fair enough, thanks for the heads up there.... though this diet really really sucked the first few days the last few have been good, and i'm looking much leaner so that I like. But I am looking forward to my carb-up on fri/sat :)

i believe it's the citric acid in your diet drink that took you out. Diet dr pepper and diet cherry coke have no citric acid so if you're going to drink, try those two.

yeah i've heard the citric acid remark before, perhaps in a few days i'll go for some crystal light, i just wish i could go back to chewing my 2packs of sugarfree gum/day, but i dont cause i know it'll add up quickly.

PS - as of a quick test just now, back in medium ketosis :):):) Time for a nice chest/cardio workout! - i guess my body must be getting use to reverting back quickly to that state or something, it's my 7th day in.

Its not just citric acid, everyone reacts differently to each sweeter and chemical. I drink 2 pitchers of crystal lite a day and stay in keto...I can drink any diet soda and stay in keto..Its all trial and error with each individual, to see what exactly kicks you out of keto and what ur body can take.
