aspirating?

up'n'comin'

What is it and how do you do it? I know that it is supposed to safeguard against hitting a vein. However, I don't know what it is. Can someone please explain? Thanks.

ok once you get the neddle deep in the muscle you pull back on the plunger about .2-.3cc/ml to check if your in a vein,if you see a little air bubble it means you cool to inject,if you see blood,it is wise to inject in another spot.and dont forget to aspirate ever time you do an injection.

actually just pull back on the plunger untill you see a air bubble or blood, and then you know what to do.

Up'n'coming. Please, please, do not forget to do this everytime. You could risk losing your life in one instant. Aspiration is simply pulling on the syringe once you pop it into the site. If there are little air bubbles filling into the chamber, you are fine to inject. If you see the slightest bit of blood in there (and it may be hidden under the colouring of the pin, so you don't notice it right away) pull out imediately. You may get some blood on the surface of the needle which is ok, as this comes about from pushing the syringe in initially as it passes into the muscle, but this should not amount to much. Play safe and don't be sorry. :)
