The Ducati Desmosedici RR -- they are taking reservation orders for them now.

I know they will be overpriced. So let's just move past that issue completely. Assume you could get one for $6K.

Now having said that, is this thing really going to be that amazing or is it just hype?

The just sent letters out to the existing 999R owners saying we can reserve one if we want to. I've just wondered if its everything its cracked-up to be.

That's a great example tho -- Ferraris. It's wierd, but when you compare some incredible cars like the Mercedes AMG65 or a Viper to the Ferrari 575M, there just isn't any comparison. All of those cars accelerate incredibly but the other two just don't have that tight, pinpoint feel that the 575M does. There is something in the handling that just seems soooo different.

They say the 2005 999R is the closest thing to a real racing bike that Ducati has released as a production bike anytime recently (sounds like the RR is even one step beyond that). Supposidly they backed-off all the extras on the 2006 999R and are going to use this new bike instead. Something about using the 999R's name recognition and reputation for one price point and then capturing an even higher price point with the new bike.

I just want to hear what people who are really into bikes know and think instead of just relying on my dealer and Ducati propoganda

well- DUC's are like what Pats said. the Lambo's and Ferrari's of motorcycles- Augusta's are in the same light...Im not a 70K bike rider. my abilities do not warrant what that bike has to offer...i can out ride many Ducati riders-some i cant- many Honda riders can out ride me...so it comes down to is that sort of bike worth it to you?...if she falls down on the street or track and you wad her up- what then?...is there an Italian Team with a truck full of parts to put it back together?...will you race it?....will you ride it?...look at it?...put hot chicks on it and take photos?...LOL. the bike will do more- (most likely) than you will ever even think of being able to do....

not really...the Augusta's are more of a super-street bike. i dont know of any race versions. I dont know of any teams that race Augusta's for that matter...they are really works of art and technology combined, i dont know that much about them, other than they are big $$$$$$$. kinda like the catagories of yacths, helicopters, mansions and playboy bunnies around the house.
