I was reading on this suger replacement, I thought it was very interesting.

"There is absolutely no reason to take this product. It is NOT A DIET PRODUCT! The Congressional record said, "it makes you crave carbohydrates and will make you FAT". Dr. Roberts stated that when he got patients off aspartame, their average weight loss was 19 pounds per person."

I'm not sure I understand...is he saying that the Aspartame will make you fat?? or craving carbs and eating them?? I love crystal light...I use it to up my water intake, as i dont like straight water too much....but if it will help me cut up better i'll stop drinking it.

My bullShitMeter makes more noise than a Geiger Counter in Tchernobil

Your "bullShitMeter" needs calibration bro... HAHA, there is no BS, trust me, but the same would go to any artificial sweeteners. Do a search on any of them, there is more then enough scientific data to back up these claims. Also, there is no way to avoid them all, unless you just drink water.... So fuck it, enjoy your crystal light!! I personally use Sucralose as a replacement.

OK, I have just re-calibrated my BullshitMeter and here is what it is just telling me::

Very few people (approximately 1 in 10,000) cannot metabolise phenylalanine : they suffer phenylketonuria (PKU)

for those people, and only for those, aspartame is dangerous

for the rest, aspartame is safe

I agree, drinking water is better, but a diet soda once in a while is OK (and I love diet Dr Pepper)

anthrax, what is wrong with the diet soda? while only once in a while is it okay?

It is just like so many things : moderation is the key

A diet coke won't kill you but 3 liters a day all the week long will have some side effects

The carbonation in all soft drinks causes calcium loss in the bones through a three-stage process:

1. The carbonation irritates the stomach.
2. The stomach "cures" the irritation the only way it knows how. It adds the only antacid at its disposal: calcium. It gets this from the blood.
3. The blood, now low on calcium, replenishes its supply from the bones. If it did not do this, muscular and brain function would be severely impaired.

But, the story doesn't end there. Another problem with most soft drinks is they also contain phosphoric acid (not the same as the carbonation, which is carbon dioxide mixed with the water). This substance also causes a drawdown on the store of calcium.

So, soft drinks soften your bones (actually, they make them weak and brittle) in three ways:

1. Carbonation reduces the calcium in the bones.
2. Phosphoric acid reduces the calcium in the bones.
3. The beverage replaces a calcium-containing alternative, such as milk or water. Milk and water are not excellent calcium sources, but they are sources.

Hope this helps :)

Excellent info.

The "carb craving" aspartame causes is from the body's reaction to the aspartame. When ingesting a sweet drink with aspartame the body registers the sweet taste, thus expecting an influx of carbs. When the carbs don't show up, the cravings start. If you can get past the cravings, then you should be fine.....
