As per Brans request, this is an anti marriage thread

Since brans such a good bro I took him up on his request that this day be anti-marriage day. Heres a more specific topic directly related to marriage that you can discuss: What is your opinion on "clock tickers", that is women who start mentioning at some point to their b/f "my clock is ticking, I need to be married by the time Im ___ age, or need to have kids by the time Im ___ age."

My g/f has casually dropped the line "my clock is ticking" on more than one occasion, and Im very keen to it so I called her out on it and squashed any confusion about when I want to get married. Which is at a later time than she wants of course.

UGH......Marriage is a big no-no por moi!!!!! I can't keep the same chick around me for more than a year. I would like to spread my demon seeds eventually.:Chef: :tuc:

Ive already done that rob. This girl is good for marriage, but not if she starts getting pushy about it.

I'll keep it that way too. Honestly, I like being tied down the first couple months of a relationship. Then, all of a sudden, a brighter box opens its legs with all of its beautiful splendor. :Chef: :tuc:

How long have you two been together?
9 months. We are both 30 and I know what I want by now. Basically if we progress down the same path weve been on for another couple years I can see getting married to her.

you can only do this when you are ready.

In my entire life of alomst 30 years and aggressive socializing, I have met exactly ONE woman I know I could marry.

Do not settle. Do not compromise.

I wish you the best either way. I've seen the perils of marriage and I can't put myself in that position. :Chef: :tuc:

Ive left more than one woman on the basis of knowing that long term future wouldnt work out, not matter how great the present and short term future is o and will be. Its one of the hardest things to do but you cant compromise, not for something like marriage and kids.

I have 100% confidence in bran. I can say that in very few people. He is a winner. He will do what is right...when its right...with who its right.

That being said...Branny don't get married until you made you first millions. You need to bang all the hoties you can. You don't want to do it when your 30...fat wife...kids...And, you have girls that snubbed you when your younger throwing themselves at you...It is too hard to resist. Get it out of your system now!!! (and send me pics along with play by play)

I agree. You shouldn't compromise if you aren't going to be happy. I don't understand how men (or women) allow themselves to pressured into doing something like this.

I think they are looking for something/someone to provide what is missing from their lives (happiness, feeling complete, etc.) instead of looking within.

Thats what I already said...Bran needs to bang alot of hot (and not so hot)chicks before getting married

If that's what he needs to do to get "things" out of his system, then he should. Even if he does get it out of his system, he may still not want to get married. Then there is nothing wrong with that.

So, you are offering your services to get banging sexy chicks out of his system?

Wow!!! Bran, single life is looking pretty good!

No, I'm not. I'm sure he will find plenty of hot chicks. :)

Besides I thought the EFAOFO would be against their members hooking up with each other.

We got married after 5 years of being together (and living together all but 4 months of that time). I'm not sure we got married for the right reasons. It's hard to say. I'm not anti-marriage though. We just have a lot of issues.

I would think moving in together after a scant 4 months would be the start of problems to come. But if youve managed to stay together for 5 years before getting married then sounds like thats enough time to sort things out regardless.

No we moved in together after about 2 weeks. I moved about 30 miles away so we just spent every other day at the other's place for a while and finally moved into mine. 3.5 months of that we were broken up in 02.

I really don't see the point of marriage. Over 60% of all marriages fail. Would anyone invest in a stock that has a 60% chance of failing, or buy a car that only passed a crash test 40% of the time. I know that might be over simplifying things, but u get the point.

Besides tax breaks, and insurance benefits, what's the point? Insurance isn't very expensive if you shop around and find a good carrier, and you can make up for the tax breaks by simply writing a bunch of shit off at the end of the year.

Furthermore, a divorce is VERY expensive if one of the parties wants to drag things out. Plus, in most cases, the guy gets screwed in the divorce.

Of course there are always success stories about marriage, but you can still just be with someone and still as happy.

I agree. My grandparents were together and unmarried for about 40 years. They got married really late for legal issues (ownership of property if one dies, etc.)

Sorry but the whole thing sounds like too much too soon right from the beginning. People need time and space apart in the beginning of a relationship otherwise you cant see the forest for the trees because you got in too deep too fast. I can guess all of this happened when you were relatively young also?

We got together right after I turned 21 and he was 23. I don't think we were too young or too clueless or anything else. We went through a fair amount of counselling before we got married too.

Doesnt sound like thats the problem then, probably just a rough patch as you put it. Pre marriage counseling was pretty wise I must say, dont think many people do that. Things will work out.

There is no rule for members hooking up with each other. If there was we would have had to ban Gambino and Killa months ago.

I'll co-sign that.

I don't care much for marriage. I care for divorce even less. I don't think I will get married again and I won't have to ever worry about divorce again either. Marriage is a fine institution for those who like institutions.

Bigass red flag if I ever saw one.

- fools rush in
- people, situations and feelings change
- familiararity breeds contempt
- the word love is subject to interpretation
- marriage is an outdated institution

having said that, getting married was one of my best moves. she's smart and sexy and i'd do anything for her but that doesn't mean that she's the last woman i'll sleep with. we have an arrangement that i can do what i have to as long as it's not brought into the home. for some reason that annoys certain people? they say my marriage is a sham?

the trouble is, folk marry on someone elses terms. they don't communicate their true feeling before tying the knot. both women and men swear away their fidelity knowing fine well (conciously or not) that somewhere along the line they're going to get bored and start chasing another

my boss is one of happiest married men i know (24 years) a true romantic. if you could see him and his wife together you'd say they were the epitamy of a happy loving couple. they tell each other everything! they both sleep with other partners. they both live in different houses. they both still love each other.

this is the real world, marriage isn't a barbie doll dream

I love my wife ;)
