Arnold & past heart surgery

Nutrient-Nut

New member
As you all know, back in the spring of 1997, Arnold had heart surgery at age 49 to replace a damaged aortic valve.

Do you think that it was the D-Bol that caused this problem? I've heard that Arnold use to take D-Bol in massive doses (massive in the norm of the 70's). Do you think that D-Bol is one of the worst steroids for the heart? It seems like lot's of football players attribute D-Bol as the culprit when they have something wrong with their hearts.

Supposedly his father had the same condition. Maybe the AAS aggravated it. If anything they can aggravate and hasten the onset of genetic diseases.

I think it's unrelated. People have heart attacks every day that are related to smoking, bad diet, no erxercise, etc. Some people are born witth bad genetics and have poor health. When a bodybuilder has a health problem everyone points the finger at AAS being the cause. Bullshit and sterotyping.

I'm sure that steroids do aggravate a predisposed problem or genetic disease, but AAS are not soley to blame for the disease.

A little off the subject, but Arnold's size was due to his training methods. He said it didn't make any difference to him if he used them or not, he got big with them and without them.

Of course Arnold said this, but no one that knows anything about steroids would believe that bullshit statement. It didn't matter whether he used AAS's or not, b/c regardless, his body would get big with or without them, OK then why did Arnold use D-Bol at 50 mg ed, just b/c it was cool to do or what? That's total bullshit, but expected to come out of the mouth of someone afraid to speak the truth. Sounds like something out of FLEX magazine. I got big with them or without them, it didn't matter. That just kills me! What bullshit!

Aronld had elective surgery to correct a congential heart defect. By elective I mean that Arnold was not in immediate need for the operation, he choose to have it when he was young and healthy instead of requireing it when he was old. Smart choice. His heart problem had nothing to do with steroid use.:)

5 years after surgery & great shape!

It's been 5 years since old Arnold had that surgery and he is in great shape. His doctors told him to give up the cigars in 1997. I wonder if he still smokes an occasional cigar??????

Arnold may have had some decent size without AAS, but he never could have won any pro bodybuilding competition without them!

Not something out of FLEX magazine. Arnold said it in a documentory on pro bodybuiding vs. natural. It was on The Discovery Channel over the summer. Yes, he got big because he used a lot of Dbol and Primobolan, and who knows what else. He's not afraid to speak the truth, he admitted to using AAS. What does he have to lose if he tells the truth? His competitive years were over 20 years ago. Makes no difference now what happened back then. All he said was that he competed with them and without them.

Dear Surgical, I have to disagree with you bro, because Arnold has a lot to lose if he would come out and openly discuss his AAS use of the past. He is very interested in Politics and it has been said that he wants to run for Governor of CA. Do you think that if he came out and said...(Yes, I used Dianabol and Primobolan to supplement my weight lifting training for bodybuilding competitions in the past), that this wouldn't damage his political career? Come on, this would be a significant factor for his chances to win.

I must disagree. Steroids were legal in the '70's so he wasn't breaking any laws by taking them. Also, the fact that he used steroids is common knowledge and moreover, he has admitted to steroid use on several occasions. Any damage that could possibly be done to his political career, which is negligible, has already been done.

Yes, he's admitted to using steroids, but if he came out and discussed his past use openly and held a pro-steroid stance, and said that steroids are OK if used in reasonable doses (like Frank Zane recently said).....this would definitely be used negatively against him in his campaign. In politics, they love to beat you down and use anything negative in your past against you, whether it is legal or illegal. It doesn't matter, steroids are seen as very bad things by the general masses. This is why Arnold doesn't like to talk about it. It could only be used against him if he came out and gave his honest opinion and thoughts about steroids. You will never hear any pro-steroid comments from Arnold, unlike Frank Zane. See, for most ex-bodybuilders it doesn't matter, but for someone in Arnold's shoes with hopes of a political career, it makes all the difference in the world. He will never open his mouth and fully discuss his steroid believes!
