Ads Back Schwarzenegger for President

Associated Press

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Californians will soon see advertisements urging them to help give Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and other foreign-born citizens the chance to run for president.

The cable television ads, set to being running Monday, are from a Silicon Valley-based group that wants to amend the U.S. Constitution, which limits the presidency to people born in the United States. Schwarzenegger was born in Austria but became a U.S. citizen in 1983.

"You cannot choose the land of your birth. You can choose the land you love," Lissa Morgenthaler-Jones says in the ads.

She is a San Francisco Bay area mutual fund manager and major Schwarzenegger campaign donor who is helping pay for the ads and created a companion Web site.

Schwarzenegger, 57, has said he would consider running for president if the Constitution allowed but hasn't pushed for a constitutional change.

The TV ads mark the first significant attempt to build public support for an amendment. While polls show Schwarzenegger remains popular with voters, the idea of a constitutional change is not.

Four proposed amendments are circulating in Congress, but none has advanced. Constitutional amendments require congressional approval and ratification by 38 states.

Nope. Has nothing to do with parties. Jennifer Granholm would run circles around Arnold in any forum if she were to run against him. She's a democrat, Govenor of Michigan and was born in Canada.

I just think that having a vested interest in being born here and growing up within the American experience should still be a requirement to be president.

I predict in '16 he will win the presidency.

I dunno. I'd see Arnold do it before her and I don't know one thing about her. But I know a little something about the United Stated States of America and I don't see American voters putting a woman in the white house in my lifetime but you never know.

Here's why she would loose.

1) He's Arnold.
2) He's a republican.
3) She's a democrat.
4) She's a woman.

His vested interest is not within the American experience, it's the Hollywood experience. But you knew that. He wants to conquer everything there is to conquer.

i don't think it would happen, but i'd vote for him. i think a lot of people would- he might win.
reagan was a hollywood star too.

Isn't it a bit ironic? USA is an immigrant nation. You are all descendant of immigrants. It's immigration that has built this country, made this country great. None of you are native to North America, unless you are Cherokee, Comanche, Sioux or from some other Native American tribe.
If you are white, you are of European descent, if you are black; you are of African descent, etc etc. You are all first, second or maybe 5th generation immigrant, but you are all still Americans.
Don't you agree that most American citizens can trace his or her origin back to "the old country"? You are a nation of immigrants, but you still have issues concerning "foreign-born" Americans running for president.
Does that not diminish the value of the American dream, and the land of the free? After all do you not divide your citizens into 2 groups, where you discriminate those not born in the US? Will someone born outside the US be automatically a less desirable public servant? Isn't it a better democratic solution to let the voters decide, than to regulate it by law?

I’m just wondering.

i heard sucess is measured by the size of your biceps.. when i was in high school and had 17 inch guns i had more success then . then now

it won't work. democrats are not gonna make a change that'll result in their ass-whooping in the next election.

he WILL be the next President....we have no hero's left in this country...we adore heros, he is a hero in the eyes of the american people...he came here with nothing from another country...and we like stories that go from rags to riches....he was and is embraced by the media....no skeletons in the closet so to speak....does not have a past of crushing people to get where he is now....they can attack his BBing career, but not much else...he's got a clean board and the "family" (1 of the 10 that rule our world) to back him....He will be there-not soon enough as far as Iam concerned...IMO.

A female president? Being the president isn't like cooking a fantastic thanksgiving dinner... it's a man's job! ;)

Well I believe it was put in place in the start of our country because back then they didn't know who still swore allegiance to their old nations. It was a matter of national sercurity back then. Today it's different. I don't see a problem with a foriegn born citizen becoming president if he was a citizen for at least 25 years. There is no more need for the electoral college either, but that's a whole nother matter.

25 is too long. How about 10 minutes?

Seriously, you're willing to go back on this one, YET you're not willing to go back on the guns ammendment...

Will never happen, and rightly so. This is one stupid fucking idea.

I would be scared he would become the anti christ. I mean he would be the first prez that was wildly liked and good looking at the same time which the anti christ is described to be. I wonder if he has some roman blood in him?

According to the bible sex is a sin. So women having sex with a really big tool is probably a bigger sin. So the devil would likely have a massive unit to inflict maximum sin upon his victims.

Either way, as soon as arnie becomes president judgement day will surely follow.

I can hear arnies campain already;

MY MISSION IS TO PROTECT YOU,
VOTE FOR ME IF YOU WANT TO LIVE.

It's not an indictment of Arnold personally, but it's important for many reasons to have a President that has been raised with American values since birth. Not one that was raised with say, German or French values for the first 20-30 years of their lifetime.

Because quite frankly, not all cultures are equal, and Germany and France for example are lacking.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion... but how would you justify that statement? How is a culture 'lacking' in comparison to another?
