Army Special Forces

Has anyone served in the army, particularily in the army special forces?

I have been considering joining for a while now. I have a bachelors degree and am looking for someone who has experience in this path to contact me through a PM.

Wow that hard core. Getting your college degree and then joining the army! Good luck buddy!

A lot of people have a college degree then join the military because they can go to officer school =P. Wayyyyyy better than simple enlistment.

Yeah don't really know that much about it, but I do know you could use that school to get better pay. The one good thing about the military is that there won't be a lack of jobs any time soon. With the downward spiral of the United States economy and stimulus packages that don't work I was thinking about joining especially after I took the test and scored very high. My step dad is a medic/chaplin assistant and according to him he has been seeing kids getting 32k to 36k signing bonuses so make sure if you do it grab some of that cash. Also make sure they don't fuck you over because he relisted and signed the papers and had the ceremony and someone that outranked him tried to get him to stay by not putting them through which would have probably put him overseas in 3 months.

one of my best friends who is in iraq now is trying to get into the sf. he is an mp and him and his two partners won this huge competition vs. all the mps around the army. he won like 10k, got to be on t.v., and maybe even got a higher rank. i will contact him for you when he gets home. his bday is march 23rd and he comes home on leave the 22nd. he has a special forces book he reads religiously.

Check your PM. I broke down your first couple of steps. Let me know if I can help further. Keep in mind, its a long process..this "community" will find you if its in your cards. Additionally, special operations teams are filled with brilliant soldiers. Many dont have a college degree, yet their IQs are off of the charts...all fluently speak a foreign language, are CIA trained in counter-intell, tactically superior..well Ive made my point. If and when you get into the army...you might understand some of it. Until then, movies are fun to watch I hear? Best of luck man.

Also..be mindfull of stories. Someone always says, "I know this guy that said..." You want more info, let me know. Money for an army competition? You have to be kidding me..ridiculous. One doesn't go from MP (military police) to an 18 series. That is actually absurd...just like the 10k prize "winnings". That soldier knows better, trust me

not sure if it was as high 10k, but he did win a lot of money. it is the BIGGEST mp competition. but i swear im not lying. ill freaking record him telling you what happened and post it on youtube and up in here.

No need. It wasnt my intention to implicate you were lying nor do I intend to argue points about the military you dont understand. I wish your friend a safe journey home and tell him to keep reading his manuals. Group loves manuals..really.

Become an Officer. As soon as you start realizing how shitty privates are treated (perhaps yourself) and the military can fuck you over during deployments - you'll be kicking yourself from not being a nice cozy officer. And while you're attending OCS, etc. after iet - you can't even be deployed. More money, more power, less danger, everyone salutes you = all good. :)

I was an E4 going in, but I was also reserve and f/t army was not my style. I don't like paycuts :)

In today's market it takes more to get into OCS than a college degree.

It has to be in a desirable field, e.g. Engineering ... and you have to have a farily high g.p.a.

Ive also been considering the marine path. Marine officer school, they have a decent finance management program from what i hear. I have a degree in finance.

From being a captain in the marines in finance, I'll have the option to maybe continue that path or go for Marine Recon.

One thing I am unclear on with marines is, even if you are in something like finance, don't they prepare you hardcore for fighting? Going by the saying that all marines are marines type thing...

30K bonus for enlistment? I think that was a while ago. Is that really still going on?

Razor, how much did you get?

The guy was supposed to get 36k and they cut him down 2 grand and my step dad told me he was pissed. When I was going to join though the recruiter told me they couldn't really offer me much of anything so I don't know. Also, the money seemed like shit which is a big reason why I didn't do it.

You just need any undergrad degree, the Army is hurting for officers pretty bad right now.

It doesn't matter what MOS you are as long as you meet the minimum criteria and can pass selection

Criteria that might help

Ok, you have an expert here in enlistments and officer courses and special forces selection. I have been invovled in all of it in mhy prior life. First of all, any one can apply for SF, no matter what your job/MOS! They want the best and allow everyone to try, if you are the best you will be selected no matter if you are a cook, truck driver or fuel handler, because SF is going to train you for two years! As for officer, you do not get to select your branch, you make ten choices, in order, and they try to give you one of your top three. You can not go directly to SF, you have to wait til you are a Captain. If you like that HOOAH stuff, tell them you want to be infantry, which all officer are sent to ranger school and airborne school. They will teach you everything you need to know to go SF. Right now the Army is so short officers, that captians are recieveing reenlistment bonuses, which as far as I know has never occurreds in the last 50 years! If you go enlisted, you can enlist for rangers and SF option, which does not guranetee anything, all it does is allow you to try out, and if they only need five people out of 500, you better be the best, becuase they are just going to tell you that you were offer the SF slot but you did not qualify thus following the contract allowing you to try out for SF.

If you go in as an officer, you get paid better. You are offered numerous opportunites! You will be allow to get your master's when you go to your captain school. Plus officer schools are gentlement courses, which means no demening.

Any other questions, send me a message or post it. I have all the info you need!

Did you serve

Didn't think so :p

Hell no I didn't, more power to those that chose that route though since we apparently need an army.

You served...so fucking what? I do heroic shit on a daily basis as do many others. Anynimity is the truest expression of altruism son.

I've got mad respek for what you do bro

I was in the 2nd Ranger Battalion back in the Reagan years. A lot has changed since then, but we all went to Q school as well as all the other high speeed schools. From what I understand now, most Junior Officers go to Ranger school whether they are going to Battalion or not. NBC always had huge bonuses when I was in. Might want to check that out.
