Army reserves or Air Force reserves?

uNOwho

New member
If you had the choice to go into either the Army Reserves or Air Force reserves, which would you choose and why?

I'm debating which branch to go into, I just know that I am going into one of the two. Not sure which one yet.

~p~

AIRFORCE RESERVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LISTEN TO ME! AIRFORCE ALL THE WAY!
P.S. I'm in the Army reserves so I won't steer you wrong.
The "tech" school for airforce is more laid back. I just finished "AIT" for the Army and i woke up at 3:30 in the morning for physical training. Also if you are prior service (like I am) if I was in the Airforce i wouldnt have to deal with Drill Sergeants. In the army i was treated like a private all over again.

i just signed up for army reserves and last night was my first night of battery training, and holy shit the drill work was insane,i was never yelled at so much in my life, but god damn i loved every second

but i know nothing about airforce so just go with what you think will be more fun

NEITHER! Join the reall military.

UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS!

Wait. Your in boot camp and get to surf the net? That is fucked up!

Naw, it is the haircut you have to get used to!

Your kidding right? I got yelled at, thrashed, and pt'd to death for 3 months straight! I didn't see a woman for 11 weeks, not even a picture until my wife (ex) appeared on the Sunday before we graduated.

I tell you what, that was the finest tail I had ever seen! And I had to wait another week before I could nail it!

I would not recommend the SAS (Saturday and Sunday Soldiers) to anyone. They are called "tunes" here in Canada....they are there but not there.

Join the real army or don't join at all.

im just getting my feet wet in co-op to see how i like it and i do battery training thursday nights

the way it looks by september ill be in basic for infantry soldier

Did you decide go join the regualar force ? Or are you gonna continue with the reserves??

Good to see your still around:)

at the end of the summer im going regular infantry, like you said reserves are for pussies,i see the little bitches that are in my battery training, dumb as shit and twigs,i wanna be with real soldiers

Re: Army or Airforce

i would choose mcdonalds...but if i had to choose, absolutely was forced to choose, i would go with the army...i hear the airforce is even worse than the army.

what did i tell you?

bullshit...they tell you "you like this" and they hammer it into to you...do you honestly like it? maybe your basic is a little less harsh than mine, but by your description it sounds the same. we had honest to god psychos on our course...they would yell at us on the rifle range! seriously, you are NEVER supposed to do that in case a troop goes crazy and pulls a Gomer Pile...after i came back from my summer training i learned that all kinds of charges could have been laid on my basic...every type of harassment suit possible...what a bunch of sickos!

i knwo you said id hate it but i wont find out how bad basic is till sept, right now with battery training(im stationed at a armoury) we do 2 hours class, one hour drill, and i can honestly say i like the yelling,it doesnt phase me,some of the guys in my battery were pretty mixed up after drill

well, ive warned you fairly, lol

im still in the army for the following reasons:

(1) it's a job

(2) they pay 40% of my total university fees, $ 2000 a year.

(3) i might be promoted to corporal friday, feb 8, or soon after, meaning, i get a raise. once again, most importantly...

(4) it's a job

peace

see for me i want a job, good pay, hard work if fine because it makes me feel ive earned it,and the pension is great if you bust balls and get promoted

My military career has not been the best thats why I'm telling you to go Airforce. The reason I say this is becuase the I spent jan-dec on Sheppard Airforce base going to school even though I'm in the army reserves. The way the airforce treats their troops is a lot different than the way the army does. If you wanna be a Hooah, Hard Core, High Speed Low Drag Soldier, then yes go into the Army, but once your outta basic training and AIT youre gonna be a lazy reservist anyways. Just know that both Army and Airforce Reserves are getting called up to go active. It just happened to me. I spent my entire active duty military career PMCSing my HumVee (however you spell it), in the field, or pulling guard duty. I didn't do my real job at all. Then I join the Reserves spend nearly a year training to learn how to repair medical equipment, just to be sent to Germany where I hear I'm going to be pulling Gate guard. WTF I wish they would let me use the skills the spent all that money on for me to learn. So yes I am bitter. Now there's my point of view!

There used to be plenty of specialties (MOS's) in the US Army where this was not the case (Intell/strategic assignments for example). But, I ETS'd in the late 80's so I have no idea what the current environment is like.

All branches have their pros & cons and unique Idiosyncrasies. Select the option that provides you with the training and experience that best suits your current/future goals and objectives.

As someone who is in Basic Combat training in the Army right now I can tell you it's goign to be whatever you make of it. I know people who breezed through AF Basic and talk shit about it till this day

Army Basic is what you make of it....

My company is run by Drill Sargents who all but 2 are Airborne qualified, and all but those 2 are Rangers

Every single one of them has seen combat and has provided honest advice that has bettered me in some way. Now is it possible that you could be pushed hard in the AF Sure who knows, but If your wanting a Cake walk the Army isn't the way to go. I get treated fair...Honestly I was expecting Full Metal jacket with drill Sargents always in my face but it isn't that way.

My drill Sargent I have now has served with the a Ranger Bat. and just left a Green Beret Sniper team

he's a no nonsense guy who has informed us as much as he could about the Army and what to expect from AIT and the Army in general

my typical day starts between 4-4:30 mon-sat

My day ends about 9pm when I head to bed. I usually pull a firewatch or some kind of guard shift 4 days a week for 1 hr at night. PT is tough and Smoke sessions when someone in my platoon screwed up, they would start at 1 hr and work up...our last one was for 3 hrs....Constant pushups, flutter kicks, overhead arm claps, rasing the roof, etc...

Any service you choose to join is going to give you everything you choose to make of it....Depending on what kind of skills you want to aquire would depend on which service might suit you better...I'm sure all the military people here can give you a spill for their service...Personally I joined the Army cause they offered a Communication (commo) job that will allow me to go to jump school(Airborne) Volunteer for Ranger training, and try and go to schools like Pathfinder, Air Assault, Jump Master, and a few other advanced Communication training courses....My college will be paid for by my state or with the GI bill I"m paying 100 bucks a month for my first year in.

There are alot of opportunities in all branches. Just decide which ones suit what you want to do with your life

I joined the Marines because I wanted to be a Marine. Not because it was a job or they paid for my college. That day I became a Marine was the best day in my life and still is. To join a military organization for anything less is a waste of time.

True dat.

Ex-infantry, ex-recce, ex-sniper, ex-pathfinder,ex-soldier

All titles that I am proud to bare, and will always be proud to bare. No matter what army you are in, the combat elements have a very tight brotherhood.....whether you are a marine or an infantryman, you all owe each other the same respect.

I will always buy a drink for any marine, infantry, or combat arms soldier whenever I come across one.

The army made me.....I owe them everything.

You know, I would have responded to this a lot sooner but I forgot that I posted it.

I say the Air Force, not because it's a cake walk as some would say. I'm thinking of that branch because of the technology and computer training. Whatever I do I want to be hands on with computer equipment and that shit. The army has the technology but they also seem to have a lot of bullshit fluff words for "field bitch." I don't want to be running around the field with a radio on my back. I want to have a helo that needs their flight controls fixed, or an F-18 that needs it's on board computer reprogrammed, that sort of thing. The Air Force has been in my family for years. The Army is also appealing to me. The Marine's were never an option for me because I don't like being brainwashed to run into bullets. The Navy, I don't like sleeping on a ship with 600 other guys and no women. I'd go insane, fast.

My best friend is in the AF and he's about to be shipped overseas for his TDY, I've gotten all the info from him and his wife about AF basic and all that shit. I know nothing of Army basic or AIT so I can't base any judgement on that. Air Force may be more laid back, but it also seems as though they treat their troops a little better as far as pay, compensation plans, housing, all that stuff. It's biased yes, but his wife has a brother in the Army and she's gonna try to get some info for me from him.

I'm doing the reserves because I can't afford to give up my family business right now for military career. I realize that as a reservist that possibilty always exists, but it also allows me the time to spend learing the business and getting set for taking it over in the future.

I'm gonna talk to a recruiter from each branch in the near future. So I'll keep all posted on what I decide.

~p~

I just got out of the Marines Corps Reserves and let me tell you somtehing, don't go in ANY branch of reserves. go full time and make your time worth your while!!

unowho-what isyour family bidness? do you run the show? hmmm, well, in any case, I believe that for any branch of service, you will have to give away at least 3 months for boot camp and then whatever time your school requires, usually a couple of months, so you will be away from the business for a while. whichever branch you pick, reserve s or full time, good luck.

FUCK OFF JARHEAD!!!! BECOME A RECON SPECIALIST IN THE US ARMY!!!

just kiddin' about saying fuck off, but you're still a jarhead ;) lol

You might as well go active, youre gonna get deployed no matter what you do!

not true, I'm in the National Guard now and all we're doing are local security. IE Newark Airport, Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, George Washington Bridge.

Most Active Army units have already gone. My old unit 3rd ACR from Ft. Carson, Colorado has already been sent to the Afghan for border patrol last thing I've heard.
