Putting metal in a microwave is a MYTH. As long as the metal does not come in contact with the surface of the microwave, you're golden. Just don't use something that is highly conductive!!!!

my granny has a microwave that has a metal/aluminum (or some shit) top and bottom divider, like an oven, no sparks, but I have seen some leave a fork in their palte and the spaks were flying. I once also destroyed a pc by inserting it in the mircrowave for a few seconds (warranty purposes), the sparks were also flying.

i remember reading somewhere that it is safe...also, it is safe to eat food microwaved in styrofoam boxes
