Are you being poisoned by BPA?

For those of you that aren't aware the US still allows the production of this dangerous chemical. It's used in plastics and aluminum. My wife is on a huge BPA free household after attending a very informative lecture on the matter. So who wants a shit ton of free Tupperware?

Pure scare mongering,I've been using BPA products all my life and i feel just dandy !
Hell i'm gonna lick some tupperware right now....mmmmm

LOL. IMO some things are not worth the anxiety. When I first had Abby I was one huge stressball. I would have felt a lot better if I lived with a doctor or nurse. You'd be hard pressed to find a bottle or cup that wasn't BPA free.

shoot. Smurfy beat me to it.

LOL @ how babyproofed that house is going to be soon. :) Ahahaha.

Previous owners had young ones so we were fortunate to step into a preexisting baby proofed house ie lock on basement door, all cupboards have that annoying clip on them and all outlets covered.

A good friend of ours who is also an ER physician is a BPA freak. She is actually one of the people that brought all of this to our attention. They have 5 kids; will let them shoot a bow and arrow in the back hard and play on logs in the swimming pool but god forbid anyone come into contact with BPA.

I know waaaayyyy too much about petroleum based products and their xenohormonal effects on endocrine systems to have not cleared that shit out of my house as soon as I learned about it.

Andropause, thank gasoline. Children entering puberty at 8? Thank you diesel fuel. Increasing percentages of babies born with over/under/intersexed genatalia, thank you BP, really appreciate your abuse of dispersants over the oil spill.

Not hype, kiddies, just hard, cold reality.

So you're telling me I should fully support this upheaval from my wife?

Dude, your wife is pregnant, even if her fears were NOT fact based I'd say support her. Pregnancy does a number on your mind, and you can't control it. Think of it this way, she's gone into "hyper protective" mode. With her bare hands she'd rip the throat out of someone who threatened that lump inside her. She's trying to make a safe, secure nest, it's not conscious, it's programmed into our DNA.

But yea, google Xenohormones, learn something new. Petroleum by-products are not good for our bodies. Ever wonder why so many dudes are on HRT at such young ages or the age of puberty is going down? (both facts, just look it up)

Oh I agree 100%. I will do a lot of looking into this but what you're saying makes complete sense, especially having already researched a little on the subject.

BPA is in Polycarb, and just about every plastic component you own or touch has PC or a PC-ABS blend in it. I believe PVC does to, as well as polystyrene. Pick up any Injection molded piece of plastic you have in the house and find the plastics code. It will be a triangle with a number in the middle. If that number is 3, then there's BPA in it. If it's a 7, then it most likely contains BPA's.

I heard you could die from getting out of bed and getting hit by a bus or something. So I been just staying in bed all week. It seems to work since Im still alive.

Here's the "EXTREMELY ABBREVIATED VERSION" of what I believe:
1. Modern humans have existed, give or take, about 125,000 years after millenia of evolution.

2. We've introduced more daily chemical exposure in the past 250 years than all our ancestors combined were exposed to in their lifetimes.

3. We've invented new chemical combinations that didn't exist.

4. Environmental adaptation is a slow evolutionary process.

5. While our bodies are designed to eliminate toxins, they did not evolve to eliminate either the toxin volume or the types of toxins that have become prevalent since the industrial age.

Take from that what you will.

We're all doomed unless space aliens intervene?

I looked at most of the plastic in my house and found nothing with a 3 or 7 on it. So this probably isn't worth mentioning to my wife. Or am i missing something?

Yes, and No. Depends on how much you care. Plastic resins are only split into 7 categories, and #7 is an "other" category. You'll have blends of just about every resin in your home.

I work with resin's all day, so I should drop before all of you.

I haven't had a chance to read any of the links yet. Basically all plastics are potentially dangerous to my kid and my wife should limit her exposure?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. BPA's are banned in baby bottles and products as well as food containers.

BPA's are considered dangerous because they contain acetone. Well, acetone is in a shitload of other non-banned substances that you come into contact with every day. It doesn't need to be ingested. You can breathe it or absorb it through the skin.

Not to mention all the other deadly chemical used in plastics that nobody care about. Glycol is a common lube or mold release and it's also extremely dangerous and in most plastics.

Thanks for the info bro and pdaddy for posting it up

I was in a conversation about the new trend for microbrews to be canned instead of bottled. I, and a lot of other people prefer cans for whatever reason. Then someone brought up the BPA in aluminum can linings. I guess pretty much all of them have it. Kind of a buzz kill. Personally, I don't hesitate to buy canned beer. Here's Coca Cola telling you its perfectly safe:

Coca-Cola BPA, Coke BPA | The Coca-Cola Company

I guess that settles it ;)

Seriously, I don't know how much of a concern it really is, but even if there is only a slight chance of health effects, it seems the can industry should make a bigger effort to eliminate it, rather than just trying to defend its use.

Their Lips of Faith line-up is incredible.

I haven't tried any of them. Yet. Diggin the Red Hoptober though.

Went up to Ft. Collins a couple weekends ago for Fortoberfest. That town rocks for beer and bicycles. Went to O'Dells and it was like going to the best party ever.

is she gonna go with cloth diapers too?

We're tossing that idea around as well. It would save a bunch of money if anything. I'm not really looking forward to rinsing shit off of a cloth diaper multiple times a day....wait, this falls under woman duties right??

Will you guys have an in home nanny or what. Because if the baby is cared for outside the home, its not likely that the daycare provider will want to put up with the inconvenience of cloth dipes. Although maybe they would.

OR are you gonna be MR MOM????

don't kid yourself bro. you're fully domesticated now

Cloth diapers can be quite expensive, especially if you have to keep buying a new stash as the baby/toddler grows, depending on what type of cloth diaper you invest in. Ive heard other moms say that in the end, it wasnt really cost effective, but they preferred it because it was more environmentally friendly

I think there are diaper services where you just throw all the dirty diapers in an air tight container and they come pick it up and bring you clean ones.
Then you don't have to worry about BPA or filling up landfills with disposables. You have to worry about cancer causing detergent they use to wash the diapers instead :)

On a related note, my kid pissed in his own face last night and I thought it was the funniest shit I've seen in a long time.

It's going to be split 50/50. She works 7 on/7 off and can pretty much work any shift she wants and my schedule is just as flexible; plus we have both my parents here and a ton of friends(I'm super popular). Fuck day care, it's robbery and a viral/bacterial breeding ground. But if you guys are using day care I'm sure it's alright

lol!

Yeah i have a lady in a really nice house with 30 yrs experience who takes care of abby and 2 other babies. Its awesome. But i hope the scheduling works out to where you won't need child care, that would obviously be best
