poink...I am in Southern Maine....and know more about this than you do. People cannot move to Maine for free health care or access to cheap drugs.

There is a minimum income limit and a residency requirement that a majority of people will not meet. Of the 180,000 eligible Maine residents, only about 30,000 will be actually covered. The other 150,000 will benefit only by reduced medical charges and discount prescription plans. The only people who lose are the hospitals who are limited to the amount they can charge people.

The pharmaceutical companies must reduce their prices by almost 40% in Maine..or else face additional legal losses..

where do you think this money will come from? that's right! the people who are already being taxed to death.

all they are going to accomplish is gouging the producers to death, thus forcing them to move out of state. you would think they would have learned a lesson from california, where they just continued to tax and tax and tax those producing to death, until they said no more and began moving out of state. california is now 38 billion dollars in the hole, and that number is just going to continue to grow.

The money comes from the Tobacco settlement the State of Maine received, the tax on insurance companies, and the 40% drug discount the Pharmaceutical companies have to give the State. The State of Maine sued the pharmaceutical industry and won in the Supreme Court. The discounts alone save the State almost $120 Million in money they were paying before the court case.

Well, again, another post where you need to do a little history search on Maine and the current economy. We are $1 Billion in the hole...created by a former Republican...who became an independant when he ran for Gov. We had a $480 Million surplus and five consecutive surplus years before Angus King became our Governor.....and then he pulled our pants down and fucked us.

Social programs were cut allowing mentally ill people to end up in homeless shelters.

Our Maine Veterans had their benefits cut to make up for budget short falls.

Our infrastructure like roads and bridges were neglected..and the winter conditions made things worse.

NAFTA killed our fishing, lumber, and manufacturing industry...as Canada subsidized anyone willing to undercut our companies.

By the way Poink...who endorsed, passed, and celebrated NAFTA? It was the piece of shit known as George Hebert Walker Bush.....and the State of Maine pays for his fuck up everyday. Shoe companies like Bass Shoe, Dexter Shoe, New Balance all moved to the Carribean. Lumber companies like Great Northern, Scott Paper, Statler Tissue all had to shut down because lumbermen from Canada undercut their prices. Canadian fisherman raid our lobster and fishing grounds and sell the seafood for cheaper prices....because NAFTA allows Canada to subsidize the difference in price.

Maine had a history of successful economics under Democratic leadership....until the clusterfuck wannabe Angus King brought his Republican ass to town. Ironically....he switched from Republicn to Independant because he knew he could not win without a change.

The health plan will force other States to establish new billing codes and thereby allow people affordable access to healthcare. No more $250 charges for 3 stitches......or $1000 charges for an ambulance transfer fee.
