Are we really behind?

I have a friend that's a world class track runner. He's ranked 16th in World, but only 12th in the US. So, there are only 4 guys not in the US that have better times with 11 guys from the US having better times . If we're behind in track, it certainly doesn't show in competition.

I found this article interesting related to the US being behind by decades in athletic performance. Thoughts?

Very interesting article!! I'm a former olympic weightlifter (who is coming back out of retirement at the age of 27!!) and can testify that explosive movements have been ignored by mainstream gyms for too long!!! Unfortunately, the biomechanincs of shifting heavy weights with minimal effort does have a very steep learning curve, which is why I don't see the industry really embracing olympic style lifting.

But, it's great fun training in mainstream gyms doing a few (restricted) olympic movments such as push presses, snatch shrugs, snatch balance russian front squats. The best thing is, no-one else really makes use a 20kg bar plus rack at my Golds Gym so I have all the equipment to myself!

I'm currently trying to get into personal training, here in Guadalajara, based on my background in the sport, so I'll let you know how it goes.......
