seems like every time i turn on cnbc they're talking about blogs...some people think it's a hot internet trend that will result in some stocks rising. not so sure about that myself....
Like Zorro said, a blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. They're typically updated daily, some of them are like personal diaries.
But the interesting area, and the one that's seeing a lot of growth/attention involve blogs that report on news & current events, exposing flawed journalism and biases in what's we're seeing on TV and in newspapers.
"Blogs, for instance, have been credited with forcing an apology from CBS News anchor Dan Rather for last fall's "60 Minutes" report on President Bush's National Guard service.
Blogs "are having a modest level of impact on the voter side and probably a more dramatic impact on the institutional side," Rainie said. "Blogs are still a realm where very, very active and pretty elite, both technologically oriented people and politically oriented people go."
And podcasting is basically making audio files (mp3) available on the internet that can be downloaded and listened to by the public.
Anyone can do it. Howard Stern, Adam Curry, you. They can be about news, daily events, or if you're an expert at umm.. whatever, woodworking, you could host a weekly show about it, (using some software & your phone or a mic, depending on how technical you want to get).
If I'm into woodworking, I would subscribe to your podcast, then whenever you put up a new file, it's automatically be downloaded onto my machine. It works kind of like an audio subscription to a magazine, or like tivo.. for radio.
