Are Smarties good for postworkout?

Yea you can take them (assuming you are also taking your post workout protien) but you are better off getting some dextrose to mix into a protien shake.

Dextrose is key post workout as you need to restore your glycogen stores. I personally take 125 carbs from dextrose after ever workout, along with protien creatine, and r-ala.

Personally, there are not enough dextrose in the candy and you are better off eating glucose tabs, or buying dextrose.

You can get dextrose online at www.supplementdirect.com 11lbs for $10bucks.

Hey Kronk,

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this statement. I did the math in the thread on the supplement board, and the smarties work-out to be cheaper than the glucose tabs on a per-gram basis.

I do agree with you about the protein though, and that using bulk dextrose would be even better for those so inclined.

LOL, you are most likely correct. I didnt really do the math. Bulk Dextrose IMO is the only way to go. I can measure it out perfect and it makes my shakes taste better with the protien, creatine etc.

Never doubted you, just wanted to get some more feedback. I hear many different things on these boards so its hard to pick whats the right thing to do for me and my money, thanks for the links.

Edit: Its also tough, its like Yes I found glucose tabs I am set now, make ap ost just to do a double check and I could be eating smarties! I heard someone comment on eating candy postworkout as just making you fat. Thats why I wanted to double check. Anyone have anymore info?

Bottom line is this. You need dextrose post workout to replace your glycogen stores. You can eat them during training, or post training.

Your best and cheapest bet is to buy bulk dextrose from the site I mentioned above. If you cant, eat up your glucose tabs or smarties or whatever.

Just try and get 75 grams of carbs or so. If you are bigger, (over 200lbs), I would go for at least 100grams.

If I could give karma to the one who suggested smarties for post workout I would. I will have to try it.

I think the reason you have heard that candy p/workout will make you fat is becuase most candies are made primarily of high fructose corn syrup. This type of carb will only replace liver glycogen stores. It will do nothing for muscle glycogen. Once liver glycogen stores are full the remaining gets converted into triglycerides. Triglycerides=fat.

AH ok, thanks. And Smarties main ingredient is dextrose, so therefore would be good for postworkout.

hell fucking yes u can eat smarties.

dextrose is just smarties without the flavor added. okay it has a fancy name which i am sure makes all the bbers feel cool. try tangy taffy or a twix. you will never fucking notice the difference.
