Are Home Security Alarms Worth It?

I live in a established neighborhood and someone bought the lot next to mine and are building a house. I am not saying all contruction people are crooks but I am sure some of them are. Is it worth getting an alarm put in my house. I think I found one that sounds pretty decent for around 500 and 15/mo to call the police.

I guess I am just wondering because not saying I am tight but I do have insurance. So wouldn't insurance cover any loss I might have? But I always wondered if they question everything that you turn on a claim. I mean when my grandmother passed away we inherited some pretty valuble trinkets and collectables. Plus I have a few guns that I wonder if I would get full value for. What are ya'll thoughts? Is home security alarm woth it or insurance is good enough? Thoughs? Suggestions?

I have one of those & don't really use it anymore.....it's gone off for no reason before & they have passed a law in my area that after X number of false alarms that the police either 1) won't come out anymore or if they do 2) they will charge you for it.... I'm getting ready to cancel it.....

As far as belongings I buy -- if they are expensive or inherited, I take pictures & place the pics in a fireproof safe with the receipt to show when purchased or received....Also you can call your insurance co to have the piece added to your ins. policy on it's own....

Have these things for home protection. It should be done as a layered approach, no silver bullets here.

1) Home alarm system
2) dog
3) single or db legally sawed off shotgun that you and family know how and when to use
4) handgun and knowledge of use

Buy a dog.

We have three dogs, and an alarm system. The alarm system gives me peace of mind when we are out of town, and really eases my mind when my wife and kids are home alone, when I'm on the road. :)

I want to get an ED-209 robot from Robocop to patrol my house at all times. It'll suck when it goes haywire and kills me, my family, and the rest of my town, but until that happened it would be really cool!

What did you give for your alarm and how much is your monthly charge?

I think its well established that anyone who stole your shit would get bitch slapped by the hand of god himself before they made it out of your yard.

The whole system was $2200.00 (large home) and the monthly monitioring is $24.95.

Dang, that is high. How many doors do you have? And did you do all the window breaking alarms too? Btw how is your scoot running? I had to send my 113 s&s back to bourget for a rebuild.I think I blew the top end. Dang, these customs bikes are a maintenance headache. I have almost 19000 miles on it. Supposably the dude at bourget said there is only one other owner that has more miles on his bike than me.

Bike's running awseome.........too damn fast.

I talked to Rob on Monday, I needed to buy parts for a Python I bought at the auction a few weeks ago, this bike has 31,000 miles on it, it has had the 113" rebuilt twice, I've seen more than a few Bourget's with over 20,000 miles. Anyway, there 8 doors, I have all the windows done 4 motions, and three keypads. All 4 garage doors are wired too.

We got a two way alarm system. When it goes off, a voice from the central station comes on and asks us for identification. If we don't have it, then they send a personal security force by. All for only 25$ a month.

In one way its nice, in another way, it feels like 1984ish...
