Try Adored. Envied. Coveted. How can I say this? Because America has more immigrants annually than the rest of the world collectively.

If we are so hated, why are more people trying to get here than anyplace else? More than all the "other places" combined?

Believe the hype about Bush's foregin policy, believe angry europeans from "Old Europe" who mattered in 1945 but are irrelevant now....or believe well-intentioned but myopic Canadians who actually dare to think their nation is relevant to foreign policy of anyone.

believe all that if you want.

Then look at the numbers. Millions and millions each year, not just from Mexico, from everywhere, more than the rest of the world combined.

America is deeply flawed, yes, but the envy of all the world.

"You must spread some Karma around before giving it to MattTheSkywalker again."

you have to wonder why america as a country has become so despised within the last four years

I will agree, many I speak to hate americans for irrational reasons....I chalk that up to ineducation (i.e. saying they are all so arrogant and talk loudly etc...while tourists can be extremely abrasive they are for the most part nice people)...and many of my friends hate them for no good reason, and sadly cannot comprehend my arguements for why this is unfair

But America's foreign policies have made it many enemies abroad. Whilst it can be successfully argues it has been one of the biggest stabilising influence the world has ever seen and effectivly allowed free conversation and thought like this to flourish (no other 'empire' has) its refusal to adhere to kyoto protocols or participate in the ICC (even though it would have hurt you guys most) have found it enemies. People have always sympathised with the plight of the palestinians and do find it incredulous that Israel is so heavily supported. Ultimately many would be appeased if palestinians were given some degree of autonomy over their land...Israeli bulldozers ripping out olive grows and then replanting them on the Israeli side infront of the palestinian farmers doesnt help

America's actions during the cold war especially have left many embittered and angry. as much as Europe helped it has always been America;s puppet during that conflict, only now is Europe trying to assert itself (wont happen for a long time and maybe not in my lifetime, simply because an alliance of socialist country cannot gain as much strength as one which is dedicated to capatalism, often by any means necessary). May innocents died under regeimes set up by the US. Its going to have long lasting effects

These issues have always smouldered but Bush has re-ignited them andbrought it to the forefront of the media. If he wasnt elected it would go someway to repairing that, the rest is financial jealousy which is why people still flock to the US, it is the land of opportunity.

We don't hate America, but we do hate your current president and his administration.

Heck, most Americans hate thier governemnt -- so why is it such a surprise when the rest of the world feels the same way?

agreed it seems that "most people dont dislike Us as a people" just our goverment that represents us

europe is upset about iraq because it's imperialism after we agreed that imperialism isn't okay anymore. By and large in the world today it's not okay for countries to fuck shit up just cause they can. In fact, I think that's the sort of thing we got involved in the FIRST gulf war to PREVENT

my issue with iraq, other than the fact that engaging in imperialism now is an insanely stupid international move, is that WE DIDN'T GET ANYTHING

the point of imperialism is to TAKE SHIT THAT YOU WANT BY FORCE. We haven't taken jackshit, instead we LOST money by overpaying halliburton to fix the damage our $500,000 dollar smart bombs caused just months earlier.

summary: what's the point. it's lose-lose. Saddam was a douche but at least he kept terrorism and fundamentalism relatively under wraps within iraq.

NO goddamnit no
I dont even know anybody who actually hates Americans

well yeah in fucking high school
and in the smelly dreadlock bar downtown

thats about it

Then again this is a good university town
and also a very international one
lots of americans study here too

people here are superior to the general population
which to my understanding, doesnt care or know much about americans.
They probably drew some silly conclusions from Tv shows they saw and thats about it.

Many Europeans are just pissed off because you're playing ball and they're not
Seeing the USA and britain in iraq makes em want to go back to congo, indonesia, south africa, algeria, india wherever and haul some ass and whip some brown people. Although that is most likely only a very small marginal portion of the population ;)

OK, I'll be waiting. Tell me when they start mattering. email me [email protected].

Thanks :)
The EU is worth $1.22 to the US $1.00. That has swong from $.80 EU to $1.00 US dollar in the past 3 1/2 years. Thats a net loss in US purchasing power of EU goods and services by over 40% in three Years.

In December Cuba will no longer accept the US dollar and is benchmarking everything on the EU. Net loss in Cuba 40%.

If the Chinese and the japanese were to start dumping our Tbonds today. We would be insolvent and have the worst banking crises in the history of this country.

The EU could buy it 200 x over.

America is deeply flawed, yes, but the envy of all the world.

Which has nothing to do with the issue at hand. It only shows the USA is a nice place to live in. I dont think anybody is even arguing that.
(PS Holland gets ALOT more immigrants annually per capita than the USA till now)

The hate that exists against america in the world comes not or at least not predominantly from coveting and envy but more from a frustration in powerlessness against this huge economical, cultural and political machine.

More telling sir is that the union was in no small measure motivated by a desire to counter balance the US.

It might also help one to comprehend why they hate us so. The intellectual elite in Europe needed a boogeyman to transcend traditional national sentiment, and the US has become their favorite whipping boy.

"Hate America by forming the EU" is an actual tool of incorporation. Apparently all those dumb farmers outside the major cities werent as keen as their betters about forgetting their national identity and welding their national soveriegnty

You are being surprisingly ignorant.
You're smarter than this. You have deranged stereotypes of Europeans.

The USA is not our boogieman. What do we need a boogieman for? We're doing fine.

I do not covet or envy or hate the USA. The USA is doing well and good for them. I am a proud European and I am a European by choice and nothing else.

PS you did not address the question you were going to answer in this post.
Why does the EU not matter?
