APO........procedure?

hey bro's

i read some of these posts and judging by the questions and language i can tell we have some military here (prior or whatever). i am concerned with the APO system and having gear mailed to an APO. i'm sure the military has it's own system for checking mail because of terrorist issues like mail bombs and what not but what do they do for all the soldiers mail? how is it checked and how well? source is close by in europe so no customs is envolved so the only concern is APO.

Depends. When I was in Japan I got a lot of packages sent from home, and none of them were checked. Nothing I sent from an FPO-AP address got checked, and none of the stuff I received appeared to be tampered with. I got a personal PO box now so I get all my mail through that.

Make sure the address is only on there once. When they stamp it it goes with the address label. They only put it on there once [bc they're lazy] and when the mail gets sorted they look for the address and the stamp.

i'm not sure i understand what you mean about the address, can you elaborate a little bit?

When you write the address on the box to ship it, some people put it in more than one spot. IE: top, and side. Make sure that it's only on the box in one location. That way when they see the address it'll be marked.

i understand what you mean now rex but my origonal question and concern had to do with incomeing mail.

Same thing with the incoming mail. Little things like it not being placed in tube for delivery will lower the chances of it being checked. People get paranoid about tubes.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Haven't tried to get mail sent in Europe. Is there any chance of you getting a civilian PO Box? That would be your best bet.

thanks for the info rex. this post is pretty old only now has someone replied to it. i think i will wait until i get to the states if i decide to cycle at all. like i said before i will only be here for a little while longer, it will feel nice to back in the states especially after 16 months in iraq. stay cool bro.

The whole time I was in the service I never had any of my mail checked(from APO address) and I never once got searched at customs when I showed my i.d. Customs would just smile and send me right through. B/C you wear the uniform other govt. organizations let you slide a little b/c you're part of the "club" so to speak. There's no way to know for sure but I'd guess that they won't mess with you or your mail at an APO. Damn, now that I'm out I wish I could go back just to try and take advantage. Good Luck!

i know what you mean about customs and the airport bro it's like a free pass. customs does not even think twice about letting me go right on buy especially heading back into the states, and with all the support we have now it's really nice. then again there was that whole thing where people were trying to kill me for 16 months.
