I'm thinking of sending off boxes of personal and family photo albums to be mass-scanned in. Then get DVD or DVD Menus of hi-res photos back. So much nicer than boxes of photos stuck in some attic. Plus great watching material for family get togethers.

A friend of my dad retired and started a business like this (media restoration, duplication, etc.) He's so busy it pretty much turned into a full time job, and that's in a hick town. And yes I agree, digital is much better than crusty attic celluloid.

Yeah if I can't one similar to this where my parents live - I'm gonna tell my brother to start this up as well. Great training for working in films later as well.

If he can partner with a huge department store or photo labs - he could make a killing contracting out.
