Anyone up for an entrepeneur contest?

Let's see who can make the most money from scratch in 2 months legally.

Specifics of what you are doing can't be disclosed throughout the 2 months as that will just give away your ideas to others and it'd be cheating.

Lets wrack our brains and try something, anything.

Even if nothing comes of it we will all still learn something in the process and in the end, we can all share what we did, and learn form other's mistakes or ...umm, non-mistakes..

official statements like checks or any kind of money transfers will be needed to show prooof of income.

You win nothing but self respect and pride.

all of the proof is given to an unbiased 3rd party at the end of the contest

the losers have to send all the money they made to the winner (minus taxes) winner keeps the whole pot

now that's a contest!! :) lol

you would need to define 'from scratch' a little more clearly

That would involve dropping whatever lucrative dig we got going on right now -- and go spend all our time and effort on some "new" venture w/no backing just to win some hollow contest.

I understand what you mean -- but i could easily just sell some car of mine from the garage, and present $9,000 and win the "contest". Someone else could bust their ass at a flea market and make $8,000. So who technically would you consider the "winner"?

Starting a business or venture isn't child's play. It could mean further clarifying and intensifying what you're doing right now. Or it could mean spending more time planning and researching what you envision doing business-wise. All which could involve a lot more than say 2 months.

ok nevermind

lol

dude it was a good idea

it would just have to have more like, rules:

like you can only start with $100 for instance

stuff like that

it would just be something we'd do in our free time or when inspiration struck, not quitting our jobs to do it lol

I like the way u think!

Let's change it a little bit:

What WOULD you do? (Since our real lives are too full to drop everything and do this)

In this contest, I would probably just do consulting. Cheap, easy, could start tomorrow.

What kind of consulting?

Matt....help me to help you to help me to make money.....LOL...

My mind is constantly thinking of ideas...I just can't come up with any good ideas that do not require a lot of capital. Hell...right now I would just be happy finding a new job.

I'd just go out and start selling and installing "no cd-rom required" linux web browsing machines for $800/pop in lobbies for government agencies. Allow people to browse that city/agencies web site while waiting for their number. No maintenance costs. All configuration is done remotely. Cheap. Secure. Go from city to state to federal agency -- piggybacking off of more and more contacts pilfered from each sale.

That's what *i'd* do if you threw me out on my ass tomorrow with barely anything.

www.sub300.com (business workstation). $222.

Exactly. Concentrate on finding a job first. It may seem romantic in the movies and in books about the notion of the down on his luck guy, with nearly a penny in his pocket -- rising to millions..

but reality is: You got rent, bills, dependents, etc. to pay for. It's MUCH easier to plan out your business venture WHILE working, then it is when you're in "crisis" mode. What happens then is -- you wind up making wrong decisions, committing improper planning, miniscule reseach and ultimately failing miserably as a result of that.

Start with your work. Everyone who's got a job, has a boss high enough in the chain -- who was the "entrepreneur" who got the ship rollin'. You'd be surprised how much you can learn if you start hangin' out with the big boys in your organizatio and analyzing their traits. Let them rub off on you. Unless they were born rich -- they too probably were at your level some point in their career.

I am that guy. Do you really think I am going to start hanging out with Associates just to socialize?

Doesn't work like that orb.

These people are great resources, but perhaps you've forgotten who is who in the equation you're describing.

Well I'm not talking CEO's of course. Even just starting with your *boss*. If you start looking at bosses and managers as normal educated people who've obviously done something you haven't, to be in a position higher than you -- instead of merely immaturely looked up as "the enemy" -- there's a lot of great intelligence you can tap into.

Every single job i've worked at -- i got along fantastically with my superiors. I'm always in the vein of wanting to learn more about people, my job, their job and everything around me. I look at disdain people who are just happy with the status quo, and quite content with doing the same task for the next 30 years. Those people, albiet great to play badminton with -- bore me. Life is about challenges, analysis, learning and exploring your boundaries. From that asset comes great opportunities and potential.

Define "scratch".

I use other people's money to close deals. Does that count as scratch?

I get 10% of the deal value and usually a percentage of annual profits and use zero of my own money.

what biz you in?

Indian casino construction, land development, and shell reverse mergers.

Plus, when I find a good company that I can help, I try to land companies contracts in exchange for a percentage of the revenue I can bring to that company

800? Gotta be joking. And you'd be competing with, say, Dell, who has a whole fleet of people chasing the government contracts.

Keep trying though.
