Anyone train their "neck?"

Way back in high school, I was on wrestling for 3 years, and all the time was told to train my neck for strength. Ever since, I have always incoperated it in my workouts. I know you get some indirect neck work from doing traps, But not nearly enough. I usually bring a towel, fold it, grap a 10, or 25lb. weight and lie down on a bench with it placed either on my side or the back of my head. It is a pain in the ass to manuver, I know,...but something you have to do, if you train your neck. I always thought it really improved my overall upper body tie in between my upper chest, and traps. I have to say, today people always comment I have a nice muscular neck. I enjoy it.

we used to have this funky contraption in high school for working out your neck.. you put weight on it, and then you'd push your neck on this pad towards your shoulder (right, or left, depending on how you were sitting) and that would lift the weights.. never seen one since.

but no, i don't train my neck.

I have often wondered if i should include some direct neck exersices. Mine measured at just under 19.5" the other day and I wonder if there is need to do any and do I want it to get any bigger?

I used to see a guy lay under the leg curl machine the wrong way and work his neck. Looked pretty funny. This other dude used to have this leather deal that went over the top of your head and had chains hanging from it that you could attatch weights to. I wouldn't mind having one at home with a few weights.

Brandon,...yes I know that machine! my gym has it, it is really good. Much more convienient than the old fashion way. I have used it many a time.

Dawg,...nah, try to incoperate some neck work bro.... I though the same thing, about my neck getting any bigger. I'm about where you are 19.5". I did not need, nor want any more thickness to add. neck muscles grow very fast IMO. Overall thickness. I have a hard time now fitting into button-up shirts. I thought,..."How would I fit with an even bigger neck?"..." I wouldn't."
I usually all the time train for shape, and bringing out the muscles overall shape. Train with higher reps, and incoperate some variations in there like supersets, higher reps,ect.. Works wonders.

Good Luck.

What reps/sets do you use?

Thanks bro, will probably get something for home as I have some weights there i can use.

Usually 3 sets I feel is sufficent for each part of the neck.
Sometimes I will superset to save time, and cut my sets, only wind up doing 2 sets per side this way. Doing so I feel changes pace, and up's the intensity level sometimes.
Normally I do each side (right, left,) and then front and back of the neck. Also, I try to go until a failure point usually, but my main focus is form. It usually does not take me long this way to hit failure. I do them very slowly, with resistance throughout the entire rep. I can usually bang out a few forced reps comfortably, at the end sometimes, if I am holding the weight.

2-12 sets total.(x2 all movements, supersetted @ once, after another/no rest when at 2 sets total/ x12 sets in norm for regular work) Either using machine, or fre weight with a towel on my face/head. Sometimes a pain, but it works, and worth it IMO.

I spot while "Alien Amp Pharm" works his neck, it's usually high reps of a thrusting motion.
