How did you go about it? Where do you make your money? How much is web space and what other costs are involved etc?

Thanks.

This isn't for me btw.

yes.
the first time, was doing freelance graphic design. my only overhead was my domain name and website.

now i still have the website, but i'm about to change it- i've been selling fused glass online, but through another website (not ebay, but something similar for artists). I have to pay them a small commission for each piece i sell (like $2) and I had to upgrade my paypal account. Thats it- my studio was my hobby anyway, so i won't include that price (since i doubt you'd start a glass studio).

No but i was thinkin about it,after seeing one of those info things.better off go n to bed i guess, maybe tommorw.

shit nugs, everyone on EF is a multimillionaire from their internet biznesses. Havent you seen the mad cabbage being posted up in this bitch?

Poor guy, he picked the wrong place to post something like this.

As for me, I do a few different things online. I'm a greenbuyer over at freelunchroomforums.com.

I also am an affilliate for a few different products at clickbank.

I'm not rollin' in the dough, but I do make enough to cover some random bills around the house.

El Dandy has one, I'm sure he'll answer any questions if you PM him. Just makes sure you put the subject in the PM heading, otherwise you'll get his hopes up that its an offer for butt sects.

LOL!

What type of online business are you interested in doing first?

As Stilletto said, you will have:

buy a domain name

a yearly domain fee

You need a host for your site, I use Yahoo.

You will need a processor. There are a ton of them out there. If you are just doing something on a small scale, use Paypal. I hate paypal and they can blow me, but that is a story for another time.

You will fee's for each sale you process through your processor. Yahoo charges me fee's for each sale as well.

Yahoo also charges a fee for each product I have on my site. That is over 3000, and can be quite costly.

Another good web host is Hostaway. They charge you a biiger monthly fee, but no product fee's.

I pay around 350 bucks a month with Yahoo for all my fee's with them.

Service fee's for your sales can accumulate pretty quick as well and I will not mention that # for it is no ones business.

Then there is PPC (Pay Per Click) and advertising fee's. I can drop 1000 bucks a month easy on Nextag and Google Adwords. I'm actually hiring a company 1500 a month to give me a greater online presence that I just do not have time to hit. If I get 1% return on that I break even. I can expect around 10%. So it is well worth it.

Then there are email fee's if you do mass emailings.

Anyways, it can get quite expensive to have an online business but very rewarding as well.

Oh yeah, and I almost forgot to mention the 80 plus hrs that my partner and I put into SEO (Search engine OPtimization) and adding new products, articles, linking, getting one way links, and more each week. If you half ass a website, you will get half ass results. Don't waste your time if you are not willing to work your ass off.

is this business someting you'd do if u weren't making any money?

if no - then i'd make my money elsewhere - where you will also enjoy it.

otherwise it'll all be pain, stress - and if u don't start reaping the rewards of profits - you'll hate it.

most dot-coms were started by nerds, who loved computers and weren't relaly caring too much about millions whent hey started it. they just wanted to see theri idea become a reality. that was pleasure enough. then they were paired with businessmen who made them their money. microsoft was started by nerds.

i make movies. if i don't make millions. eh, who cares. i still enjoy what i do.

so be careful if all u want to do is do all that, just for a 'chance' to make money. 99.9% of online entreprenerus have given up by 5 years and made little.

this is why i can't stand and avoid entrepreneurs. while i applaud their drive and energy - i desire to be around people who do things for love & passion; rather than profits. the latter are always stressed out, and focused on what u can do for them.

El Dandy, you actually stock the item you sell, or is it a blind ship type thing?

I keep some things in stock. I can order from my vendors(over 100) and have inventory in a day or 2. I probably keep 5g of inventory at any given time.
