I've heard it's MS's next full-fledged OS. If so and it's good I might just skip Vista. Hopefully it's not a resource hog, and doesn't partition RAM over 3 gigs to system resources.
Anyone know if Windows 7 is meant to replace Vista?

I would wait,I still use xp and have a new service pack that i just got two days ago.... I like xp over vista...... but yeah I would wait just a bit longer.

It'll just be Vista with some cosmetic changes.
They have to get it out soon cuz Vista has a major bad name attached to it and turning into the next Windows ME. MS created a big clusterfuck and they're scrambling to get a new ver out so people will finally leave their xp's.

Windows 7 is most likely just a code name. As Longhorn was, and became Vista.
I use XP Pro SP2. Tried Vista Ultimate x86 SP1 - didn't play Crysis nearly as well as XP. Will eventually try Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 as a dual boot.
Midori - haven't heard of. Heard of Mojave (really Vista) - which is a Microsoft gimmick to trick people into liking Vista.
You can expect every next gen OS to use more and more RAM. DDR2 is so cheap now, who cares? 4gb Corsair dual channel DDR2 800mhz for $67 after rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184

Vista works fine for me. After I figured out how to disable the user account garbage, it's just like an updated version of XP.
Of course I don't do anything on the computer anymore except surf the web and use it for minor photoshop stuff. Oh and the basic word processing and other office applications.

Windows 7 is just a rebadged vista, Microsoft is just going to do a upgrade and release to try to get rid of the hate for Vista.
Why leave a good thing when they still don't have a better replacement for it? MS has a recent track record of rushing stuff out to market. I kinda wish they actually had some PC competition to help shape them up.

I use Vista. No problems. The main thing is you have to have a pretty robust machine to run it. 3 gigs RAM is what I'm using right now, fast as fuck, no issues w/ programs. Not sure why people think Vista is so shitty. I haven't seen anything to make me think that...

Vista's shitty if your still running a P4 3.0Ghz, with 1 GB of RAM. For quad core's with 4 GB RAM and a 9800gt video card it kicks ass - but still not as good as XP. Which is the point for most enthusiasts. Even with top shelf hardware XP will run games at a faster frame rate.

Yup this is a common consensus. 64 bit app support isn't mainstream enough yet to benefit from whatever Vista does well.

I read an article in PC Magazine, supposedly it's going to be leaner and more customizable so it can run on lower end systems, like those available in third world countries.
So in other words if your internet is down, no OS? Lol @ any company who thinks online is anywhere near as reliable and secure as offline yet.

i have vista and cant stand it. i have 4 gigs of ram in my desktop and when i first put it in the computer was a lot faster than the 1 gig it origionally had. then slowly it began to slow down and now it takes foreverrrrrrrrr to even boot up. im thinking of switching back to XP. does anyone know how to do this without losing all my info?

You can still get XP installed. You can still buy XP too.
I went from Win 98Se to Xp sp1. If I have no need to update I don't update. Windows ME was terrible. Vista is not as good as XP so I'll wait. For that matter i still have a computer running Win 98SE. I'm not updating the hardware or software so why Upgrade?

Most of these tech companies don't give much of a shit about the present. MS is just going to rush out Windows 7 so it can escape Vista's reputation.
Many companies are already running virtual OS's with Citrix, granted it is via LAN/WAN connections.
There are online office editors that are currently being used.
Adobe.com - online PDF editor. Everything will be virtual eventually
Talk about fucking stupid. I suppose it's just another way for the uber rich corps to track our every move. That's obviously more important than customer satisfaction.

Yes and no... Its also a deployment and cost of ownership issue. I've always bought three identical computers for my children and even maintaining those three machines are a pain in the ass. I make my son do it now, but it sucks.
