Anyone know anything about cb radios???

Hey everybody,
Really been want to install a cb in my truck however I am so confused on with one to get I have heard everything from you can get more than 40 channels and cobras are no good so if you are familar with these what way should I go I havent spent much time online but from what I have found no one seems to say hey this is what you need. Feed me info!!

CB is basically an AM signal, and there are 40 legal channels in the US. You can also have "sideband" or "SSB" capability, which gives you additional half-channels (upper and lower) plus greater effective power because the signal is more concentrated. SSB users have taken over several of the channels so they'll be useless to you unless you go SSB as well. If all you want is channel 19, a Cobra or Midland is good enough.

Cobra isn't bad, it's just that there are more expensive makes. Frankly, it's more important that you have a good antenna, properly installed. I'd find a big truck stop that has a CB shop and shell out to have it done right.

By the way, there's no point in going illegal by slapping a "linear amp" on the output -- yeah, you'd probably get away with the legal violation, as FCC enforcement is a pathetic joke, but when you start fucking over your neighbors' TV reception you WILL start finding sugar in your gas tank and four flat tires. They've loosened up ham licenses so you do not have learn Morse code any more, so that's the way to start throwing kilowatts legally.

Why do you need one?
 
A buddy had one when I was a teen. We used to fuck with truckers all the time.

On a truck it's cool, but I saw a new BMW the other day a all these holes in the trunk to house his growing antenna farm. Looked god damned ridiculous!
 
I want one simply for the fact that if I dont have cell phone power and I cant kill all the guys from the movie the hills have eyes out in the middle of no where I can get someone with in 4 miles at least but also since I am in florida and their is crazieness around here it helps with traffic. I am all about the upgrade on the truck no show but I want a choice of more than 40 so ssb might be my way to go. Thanks for the help any more info is welcome!!!

Damn guys I am lmao right now cause you are typeing cb talk my cousins father in law calls it keying up when he gets on the cb. Believe it or not he also has a giant atenna in his back yard just for the base console. Now thats seriouse. But I just hope I can get a good one for my ford ranger gotta find someone with similar experiance and same truck. I wonder if thats true about the pats key cause it might mess things up cause I have a brand new ranger and that would just ruin my life.

My dad bought one in 1975 for our 'cross country trip:

We moved from Ohio to Calf. We drove across country with a cat and a litter box in the back seat. My sister and I had to share the damn backseat with the cat and litter box. Great huh?

Anyhoo, Mr. B ( our cat) loved to spread himself out in the back window of the car. The truckers got a huge laugh at seeing the cat in the window. I can't tell you how many times we heard over the CB: "Take a look at the pretty pussy in the backseat of that Ohio four wheeler ahead". I felt like a lot lizard. lol
 
So if anyone has some ideas on a good cb I should get let me know. Cause now I know the talk can walk the walk and for sure I need to skin a cat and put it in my back window.
