I'm staying there for a night next month on my way home from another trip.

Was wondering where the best places are to party there at this time of year?
I hear the islands are meant to go off... Which one/s?

Also are there any good nightspots in Athens, or would it be better to stick to the islands?

if you only have a night... you won't be able to get out to the islands.

There will be nightlife in Athens. what kind of nightlife ar eyou looking ofr Mykanos... Ios... but as you said you only have one night so I'm assuming you are transiting in Athens.... if you want to get out to the islands it would be better to make a trip out of it and get to more of them.

What are the islands like around the months of late Jan/early Feb?

If not many people travel there during these months then I will stay in Athens, but if there are still lots of parties and lots of young tourists around this time then I will ferry to one of the islands and extend my stay to 3 - 4 nights I think.

Also what are the parties like on the islands? Are they in nightclubs and do they get recognised DJs or are they mainly drunken debaucherous parties on the beach?

The islands are not lively during the Winter months. Athens has a great nightlife in the Winter time. If you have one night in Athens, go around the Plaka area. It's right underneath the Acropolis. Don't trust the cabbies, they'll attempt to take you for a ride.

What are some of the more recognised clubs that people hit in Athens? And which nights are the busiest?

I think I am there on a Sunday night but I can always change my return flight if needs be.

^^YEAH...funny thing on the cabbies....wife and I went....we saw there was a hard rock cafe on the directory at the hotel. uh? NO...it was not even close...
WE got pimped...but laughed it off in the end as an experience. It was a DUMP...

I spend 1/3 of my year there, I have some business out there and I love it

There are amazing nightspots in athens..and tons of cafes and cool places to see. The islands are only good from May-October, and even thats only the most tourism heavy ones.

athens is cool..just like any other big city....mykonos for clubs...but only during summer
