anyone have a dog with kidney problems?

apparantly my puppy can not concentrate his urine.. His specific gravity is at 1005. This is very low. The vet said it could be caused either by Diabetes insipidus, pyelonephritis, or renal failure..

BUT his white blood cell count is high meaning he has an infection somewhere..

He is getting a urine culture on tuesday and he seems to be in pain as he is biting groin area alot..

Anyway, has anyone been through this with their dog??

i am praying he has a simple kidney infection that can be treated with antibiotics.. because otherwise one is termal and the diabetes will require a lifetime worth of hormone treatment..

thanks for any suggestions and opinions..

i am heartbroken over this and hate that he is in pain...

thanks all
luv super

I will take your dog out to dinner at the best restaurant in the whole state. That should make poor puppy wuppy feel better. What kind of doggy is it? Is it the kind that humps your leg?

Sorry to hear that super , I imagine the biting is an indication of the infected area. Is he a purebred , if so what breed?

Well, hope for the best........but expect the worst. They have made wonderful advancements in medicine including Veterinary Medicine. Hopefully this is something that's treatable. The good thing is that there is sign of an infection. If there was no sign of an infection then it could be much worse. Wait for the test to come back. Did the doc give him anything for the pain? He should have. Make sure that before you settle on anything that you get a 2nd,3rd and even 4th opinnion.

Also, if he has diabetes it's no big deal. It's very easy to give them insulin and eventually it'll become part of your daily routine! Please keep me posted! I will be thining of you. Keep your head up and think positive! Everything will work out!!!!

thanks for all the feedback!!
i have purebred pitt and the breeder will NOT return my calls!!! He was supposed to mail me the papers and still has NOT!

I am ready to call the ASPCA on him!

This breeder is breeding a pitt with 1st degree mange that passes onto the pups. My pup since he is male, got the demedex version of mange which is not contagious. This skin disorder did however go deeper which has caused the kidney problems.

He has been on antibiotics since he is born almost. He is now 5months.

The vet needs to keep him off ALL antibiotics etc to get a pure culture test on tuesday.

Overall i have spent $500 on the dog, about $1500 in vet bills and this damn breeder will NOT take responsibility NOR even return my phone calls!!! I am pissed!

My dog is suffering and so am i.

has anyone had problems like this at all?? what should i do?? Do i have a right to sue the breeder at this point?
thanks

Thanks Flexy.. that link really helped!!! I am going to have to hand deliver a letter to this dude from my lawyer! I will call the ASPCA on monday if he does not settle this up this weekend.
Thank you sweetie for the help and the luv!!!
