gonna try em and have no clue how to do em.. found some video's online but its all morons doing it wrong..

dunno if there is something wrong with my arms but they def do not bend that far.. my forearms hit my biceps..

a lot people neglect the fact that there is a certain level of flexibility and static strength required in the shoulder girdle as well to get a good clean rack. take a look at all the superheavies of today and of the past. they had/have enormous arms. no problem with the rack there.

It takes some practice - fronts aren't the most comfy movement. Give 'em time and you'll have your elbows out straight too.

It takes some time to get used to the clean grip, but the flexability will come in time and it will feel far more stable then the crossed armed grip.Give it some time and your wrists will bend back that far with ease.

ya i'm gonna give it a whirl tommorow what weight should i start out on if i maxing with like 300 x 5 back squats..

Jsut start with the bar and add a little each set til form starts to degrade.

And look at that - three of us jumped all over this thread. Some front squat lovers in here :)

Just start with 135 or something like that for now.In time you will be able to use 75-80% of your back squat weight once you adjust to the movement. In regards to being ''too muscular'' for the movement,If 300lb+ olympic lifters can do it I am sure you can manage if you practise:)

i was def joking about being too muscular.. subbing squats for barbell curls? c'mon gotta be able to catch the sarcasm..

Front squats are awesome. The clean grip definitely takes some time and getting use to. Don't increase the weight to fast until your wrist get use to it or you will have some serious hurtin in your wrist to deal with for a few days. And keep your elbows up, up, up-that is very important can you tell :qt:
I wussed out on the clean grip at first and went with crossed arm because it is was so difficult but you will have to master it if you plan on doing cleans down the road anyway so might as well learn it. Good luck.

I do them one of two ways. Arms straight out in front or crossed in front of me. My arms do not work like the OLY lifters do. I've heard a lot about the OLY lifter and the SHW's doing them with the OLY grip and that is great...just does not work for me.

I also understand that they have big arms...but theirs don't look like mine either.

I used to do this movement, and had great luck using a smith machine. If you do it this way its real easy to keep the bar up there.

Weirdest FS grip I've seen is the Bulgarian guy in one of the IM vids, the guy with the curly top and 'Why Be Normal' t-shirt.

He's FS 400+ or so and starts out with the normal oly grip. Then halfway through he takes one hand off and crosses it over BB style to finish off his set. Even Strossen was befuddled, he said something in the background like 'I'm gonna ask someone what's up with that'

Anyone notice that you need a MUCH stronger core (abs) to do front squats versus back squats? When I'm done heavy front squats my abs are in agony.

def noticed that today and my core is weak as shit so this is gonna help me alot..

Why? do you shave yours?

hehehee..

:p ;) :p ;)

Of course!!!! It helps with the atlas stones:)

Seriously...My arms are much more muscular that most OLY lifters. Not saying that that is the reason. I'm sure that it is also lack of flexibility in the wrists/elbows/shoulers/brain.

I do my front squats ronnie style as well. I don't like to do them for anymore than 3 reps though as I have trouble breathing the whole time.
