Is it worth the expense? I am at the point where I certainly can't buy a suit off the rack and am damned if I can find any other clothes to fit me, and am looking into finding a reasonably priced tailor.

YO! I have to use a custom shop.

Worth it? Hell its the only way I can get a suit. I bet you have access to some really killer custom tailoring companies over there.

as you should be. Custom Tailored suits are awesome. Live it up.

I can't buy anything off the rack either, have had my jackets made from a little Italian dude for a few years now. It is worth the price as the fit and look is amazing.

There are a lot of different custom options.

For example - cottons: Italian, Egyptian etc. it sounds gimmicky but it is not. Ask your tailor to explain thread count to you.

Wools: ask your tailor about the "hand" of the fabric - go with at least 120s. I usually get at least 140s or a wool/cashmere blend for suits, though you can go all the way up to 180s. On higher quality wools for example, you can wrinkle it, and then when you hang it up, the wrinkles disappear.

Also, climate is a consideration; I am in Florida in the US so everything is summer oriented.

Pricewise, a good custom suit with quality material should be about $2500 US, shirts should be about $200US.

You can get them cheaper but that wil come at the expense of quality.

I've paid anywhere from $1500 - 3500 for a custom suit. Matts dead on in terms of fabric qualities.

Never paid near that and have not one complaint about anything I have had made in terms of quality or fit.

You can get 'em cheaper......best deals I have ever seen are my Army friends in Korea who came back with 5 custom suits for a few hundred bucks.

But if you want a suit you will be keeping 20 years...well, that's what I usually spend. And I have seen them for more than that.

20 years, hell i don't expect a suit to fit after 1 year.

I used to get dress shirts real cheap years ago. A guy from Asia would come around twice a year. They would work out to about 75-100 per shirt depending on how many you purchases.
