I hate to be a pesemist but the Italians are not fond of us right know I know a girl thats studying abroad and she wants to get out of there. They spraypainted the American dorms and yell at them when there in public. So be careful and look out for a scam.

how long are you staying in Europe? you could have sent stuff to your address from any EC state without customs problems.

Tell them you're Canadian...eh! If you cant speak french, tell them youre from BC...you live in Hong Kouver (Vancouver).

the chances to get something OTC in Italy are greater the farther you go south. This is from an Italian i spoke to yesterday on a German board. I was under the impression that you can't get anything anymore in any EC country OTC but one can obviously be lucky in the south, thats southern Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal. Obviously the poorer they are the more the merchants are willing to cut corners.

I've got to disagree with Italians hating Americans.

My wife's family is in the Venice area and from what we've been told, except for the 'students' the majority of the country is very Pro-American.

The thing that most people (Americans) need to realize, is that when you are in another country, you can not and should not expect every one to bow down in your presence. It is completely obsurd to go to any country and expect them to speak English and know what you want from them. Take some time to learn some of their language and customs and it will be very helpful.

I do not know the laws in Italy but we usually travel Europe a few weeks every year and with a few exceptions, I've always found most items readily available. Try to stay away from the big tourist areas and places were the US has military bases, they are probably tougher in those locations.
