Anyone feel like a pointless debate about God?

Here is a question from my philosophy lecture last night....the topic tends to create a lot of debate....

If God is all powerful - can He create a rock so heavy that He can't lift it? If the answer is no, then God is not all powerful...

If the answer is yes, can He then lift that rock?

Can you see the absurdity of even asking about the omnipotence of God....you can't get anywhere with it....

I am sure I had a point when I started this thread.....but clearly I have lost it....

Philosophy is fun for the right type of person. It makes you ponder everything which is intended to lead to deeper self understanding. Questions like that obviously have no answer but are simply there to make you think. I love reading eastern philosophy from time to time just to shake things up in my head and get off the normal path for a while. Enjoy.

prove god exists first.

ps, i love debates like these. pointing out a glaring innaccuracy in someone's philosophy.

Descartes proved God exists

Hume disproved Descartes

Read "dialogues concerning natural religion"--good stuff:)

How can people actually believe what the Bible says? I've read it twice, and it seems more like a science fiction book than a religious read. There's too much shit in there that just isn't possible, and that discredits all of it if you ask me. I laugh at people who spend their lives praying and going to church. That's a waste of time.

Descartes didn't prove God exists... he simply convinced a load of simple-minded fools that He did. His proof was laughable at best.

Lol... the "evil genius" - what a joke. The funny part about philosophy is that philosphers think that opposers to their views have to "disprove" something just because it's "possible" that it exists.

Ridiculous.

My teacher (playing the role of Descartes): "How do I know that you really exist? What if it's the 'evil genius' tricking me into thinking you exist?"

Me: "Listen chief, I exist. Face it."

My teacher (playing the role of Descartes): "No... I must prove that God exists because if God really did exist, then He would not allow the 'evil genius' to manipulate me like this."

Me: "What if the 'evil genius' is God and he's manipulating Descares for his amusement?"

Teacher: "No... that can't be, because the evil genius is evil and good is better than evil."

Me: "Good is better than evil? According to whom? Descartes? What if the 'evil genius' is manipulating him into thinking that good is better than evil when it's really the other way around?"

Teacher: "No! It doesn't work that way! balhbalbhlabhlkdfjlsakgsda hi i'm full of shit"

Me: "Lol so ez."

Your philosophy is easily beat.

Is there a rock God could make that would be heavier than all people on Earth to lift? Obviously, yes.

Would God have the ability to destroy this rock?

That is more important... once destroyed, there is no lifting to do.

He is powerful enough to make the rock you speak of... and he's powerful enough to destroy it.

Alpha and the Omega my brother.

It's unbelievable with all the beauty in the world how people can doubt a supernatural being.

The Big Bang Theory is a bunch of shit... how was there anything to Big Bang? Without a beginning, there is nothing.

.......God exists in my heart, flat out. Nothing anyone says will change this. He has givin me good and bad, but He is ALWAYS there with me. The End.

I can leave the possibilty of a supreme being in the universe, after all nothing is imposible, because if you think really hard about it, our exsistance and that of the universe is impossible, its very basic, we used to ask it as kids? its beyond all logic, we know that there has to be an end to the universe, yet there is none, science just likes to explain the mass, and big bang, making universe(s) etc. but the actual empty space the "area" that the universe takes up, is there, where does it end.

if you really like to stimulate things in your head, pick up a book on quantum physics, that stuff will blow your noodle. but makes sense, i just love all that talk about, time our reality being an illusion.

here is just a thought though, if memories and souls are energy, and energy being at the speed of light, would be at zero time in other words, the past and future are one all at once, its only our conscience material mind that has to take it in "one frame at a time".

I DO NOT believe in any man made "organized" religions.

The Bible is a compilation of many scriptures some from currupted writings from earlier writings. for example: The Flood, this story is very very old, beginning with the Summerians, once you start reading and looking into ancient writings, you start to pick up where the "compilers" of the bible got their material, quotes from Egyptian Toth, being used by Jesus, etc. there are hundreds of comparisons between stuff in other ancient religions and whats in the Bible, but the original sources were written sometimes over 3,000 years earlier.

I dont believe in the Missing Link, although evolution does exsist, we were most likely "created" as in genetically engineered. about 250,000 years ago. All genetic evidence leads to this time as to when we became what we are now.

God said He wants you all to stop talking about him. He and i are getting stoned right now and He keeps hearing His name, it is tripping Him out. He thinks He is hearing things.
