You have to be careful that it is a very stable country. You dont' want the situation like in nicaragua where the government took the land back. Also, some places, such as the Phillipeans don't allow foreigners to own land in fee simple. There are ways around it by having a lawyer from that country set up a foreign corp with the foreign lawyer as one of the members and then purchase the property in the name of the business, but it is a bit more complicated that way.
