Anyone do Promotion (concerts)?

I'm interested in putting on a concert. I know where I want it to be played and I know the bands I'd like to try and book.

The problem is, that's all I know because I don't know the first thing about promotion. Anyone know anything?

What do I do now, contact the bands and ask for their fee? Do they get a flat fee, or just part of ticket sales, etc?

Any help is appreciated. I know someone that does this but he's on vacation right now and I'm an impatient person
