Anyone an only child

I have an only child. She HATES it!

I keep trying to tell her that fighting and screaming with a sibling ain't all it's cracked up to be.

As a kid I though it would be cool to have an older brother.

As an only child you got blamed for everything - even things your parents did - it was nuts.

I imagine there are good and bad points to both being an only child or being raised with siblings.

i was an only child.

I have 2 half brothers (twins) that are 16 but i didn't meet them until around 5 years ago.

I liked not having siblings, but i can entertain myself for hours.

I think this is my most favorite trait of Bri's, SHE can entertain herself too. We've never heard her say, "There's nothing to do". I can recall saying this as a child.lol

I'm certain that it was due to the fact that she was NOT in daycare either. My mom and dad raised her while I worked.

It's changed now that she's in school. She has friends and is very active. However, if none of those pals are around, it's nothng for her to get lost in something on her own.

yep, so can I.

I can be alone for days at a time and be entertained doing something without getting stir crazy.

I've noticed that people with siblings like to do everything from boring errands to funny activities with 1 or more people.

I'd rather shoot myself they try and do errands with any of my friends because a 40 min trip becomes an entire day of getting nothing done.

Also - I love the time I have to myself - if I don't get enough per week I'm a cranky pants.

i could work in my studio for hours. no... days. alone.

Soem of you are saying you are ok with it now, but what about when you were a kid growing up. Were you bored or did you just have plenty of friends. Also were you spoiled growing up

i was never bored growing up.
both then and now, i could entertain myself. i read, i drew, i created things out of paper. I made things, i invented things, i wrote things.
i still do all of those.

when i wanted to do something with someone else, i had my mother or friends.

as far as being spoiled, i never needed a thing. i had anything i could want, but 'spoiled' is a bad term, because it implies that I was demanding and/or lazy when it comes to work and that's not true.
I was probably spoiled in the fact that at christmas and holidays, I was the only kid around to get attention.

i saw a study once about only children are usually more creative and intelligent. :)

^ what she said

- the mother I did everything i could to stay clear of her

It's good and bad, like anything.

Advantages:
-No one bothering you when parents are away, the house is your own personal castle.
-You get all the family attention
-Christmas is more fun as a kid
-It makes you tougher in a way growing up
-You have more independence, and in turn you develop more independence, unless you're chronically weak and needy. Then you're probably screwed in life (not in a good way)

Disadvantages:
-When something goes wrong, you're involuntarily responsible.
-You get all the family attention
-You probably have a lower tolerance as far as other people pissing you off out in the world
-You don't have that social stepladder/cushion you might have with a sibling
-It could depend on whether you're the younger or older one, but having a sibling might better prepare one for how to deal with people in general, because you're forced to at an early age

That's what I've gathered from being an only child. Is is better or worse than having any siblings? Fuck if I care.

:)

did you wish you had a sibling? Or was it cool growing up as a single child
I have two older brothers. There are factors involved that make me seem as an only child. My parents divorced when I was 4. My brothers stayed with dad and I went to be with mom, alone. My oldest brother is 10 years older than me therefor he was really never around when I was a kid. He was off with friends, working, etc.
I only was with my brothers every other weekend. I never saw them often.
It really sucked not having any brothers or sisters to play with
