Anybody who values their freedom ought to contribute to the ACLU.........

That is coming from a guy who used to be a Republican and not too many of us liked the ACLU very darned much.


They are one of very few present organizations with the ability to effectively battle the police state that so many want to usher in.

Many of you feel a level of comfort with a police state and you ought to fully support this administration.

Others are very alarmed, you very well should be, by the enormous loss of rights and freedoms represented by the Patriot Act I and Patriot Act II.


You can no longer rely on the comfort of knowing that you can hire an expensive attorney to represent you if "they" come for you. The Patriot Act strips you of the ability to hire legal representation.


So my urgent suggestion is to empower the ACLU with membership and necessary funding to fight for our freedoms.

i also used to dislike the aclu, but not after i learned what they really do. everything they do is aimed at protecting the constitution.

the problem is a significant number of americans, including some on this board, think the constitution gives us too much freedom, so they will never support the aclu. sad commentary on what has happened in this country.

Can you tell me why the ACLU is not active regarding the 2nd amendment ?

i thought you were a lawyer. if so, you know the wording of the 2d can be construed as providing for a "well regulated militia" rather than an individual right. no matter which side of the argument you fall on the poor wording provides ammunition for a legal argument. the aclu just chose the wrong side on that one, imo.

The problem with that stance on the second amendment is applying it to what was occuring at the time. The revolution wasn't a well regulate militia. It was a bunch of farmers and others fighting british repression. Heck, by today's standards, those patriots would be considered terrorists. An armed populace is a good thing...
