i've been tandem a few times now and am debating on going through the time/monetary commitment to become certified. i was curious as to whether or not anybody here participates in the sport. once the initial investment is over with $20 for a lift up doesn't seem like a bad deal. also, if you do how long have you been into the sport/how much do you enjoy it.

Do it! You'll love it. Take some time solo jumping then look into base jumping.

I did base for 6 years. Awesome shit.

I think MTSW has done some amazing HALOS.

I used to jump. The initial investment is INSANE !! Prepare yourself. You might have a heart attack when you go to price things. Try to go used at first. You can get some good deals off ebay and other sites. It's alot of fun. Especially when you start learning tricks. Just prepare yourself for the prices you will encounter when shopping for gear.

I did it a lot in the Army; got to do some cool stuff like night jumps and jump from 35,000 feet with an oxygen mask and tank, etc. I also did a few hundred static line jumps.

Getting certified in the civilian world takes a little while longer, and owning your own gear is expensive. But if you love it, there are clubs and other things you can get into that will help you share the costs as you get more experienced.

I never really got that into it in the civilian world because (1) I didn;t have time (2) it was my job in the Army, and (3) you can't do the cool stuff like night jumps, etc,

But if you ever have any technical questions or just want to shoot the shit, I can probably help you out. After all, it is where I got my screen name. :)

LOL

I'm sure it's great advice man, but there is just something funny about the suggestion.

If there is one investment one might not wish to skimp on.........;)

????? What's funny about it? Who's talking about skimping?? People upgrade their chutes, harnesses, altimeters, etc. and people get out of it. Just because it's used or less than retail does not mean it's junk. Believe me I have seen new equipment fail faster than used stuff.

I have done many night jumps. Just use glow sticks to see your altimeter and so others can see you and viola night jumping. The coolest thing is jumping from a helicopter. Now that is some cool stuff.

i appreciate all the replies. i was just wanting to make sure that the thrill doesn't dissipate once you become more accustomed to doing it regularly. it'd suck to spend that much money and time to get adjusted to a sport that wasn't that exciting once you get used to it. thanks all

I skydive every third weekend.
