I've been bartending on and off since 1995....it's great money if you can find a good place and there's no better way to meet chicks....BUT the downside is that for every bartending job there are 500 people going for it, they always want a broad, you gotta "know" somebody, they will generally hire someone that can work 5-6 nights a week as opposed to someone looking for a part time thing...

you make it sound like making money is so easy, its hard to find a decent job when you have little work experience and most jobs require 3-5+, im working a shitty ass job because its all i could get and i have a degree, im always looking and ive applied to 100s of jobs its just a shitty economy

I bartended for about 7 years- it's a great way to work your way through school.
You get tired of the lifestyle after a while though- at least I did. The late nights especially.
If you like the hospitality industry, it may be worth looking into becoming a sommelier. You have to go to school for that, but it is more of a long-term career.
Or a wine rep...I knew a few and they all seemed pretty happy with their careers.
If you do go into bartending, don't bother going to bartending school. Just get your SmartServe (or whatever American equivalent there is) and start off being a service bartender (bar for the servers). Then just work your way up.
You don't need to work full time to bartend- just 4 nights a week and you should make at the very least $ 200/night.
I worked in some different places, from fine dining to casual, and I have to say the best money was actually in a sports bar becasue they have the most regulars, and they are your money makers. If you make friends with your customers and know exactly what they like and give them special treatment (promo shots etc.) they will treat you like gold.
Shhhh, without those afraid to accept risk we wouldn't be able to be rewarded from their efforts..
