Anybody else has that 1 co-worker that....

.......totally abuses the sick time policy? This lady doesnt take a day off at a time she takes a week everytime. I am pissed there goes my EF goof off time.

Man I am going to kill them on OT the next few weeks!

my office mate has had a bad year so far- she gets 3 weeks off and has used it all already.

and another woman I have to deal with has also used up her time, between being in the hospital for a week, taking off a day or two here and there, or her kids being sick, she's never here. Good thing for her that she's blowing the owner though.

I'm lucky to be in a department where everyone is nice and they carry their own weight.

I've dealt with some people in the past though that drive me nuts...and I had supervisors who would look out for the malingerers.

It's been my experience that the lower on the totem pole a worker is, the more they call in sick and use up their time off. Almost everyone on my entire team (customer service reps) have near zero time left because they take their time as fast as their earn it (dumbassez)

those higher up in the company (supervisors/managers/directors) very rarely ever call out sick..

I know I pretty much never do. Even recently when I was out sick and at the doctor for chest pains, I worked at home remotely so my work never actually goes undone. never.

Yes

And, odds are they didn't miss work when they were lower on the totem pole. So, that is a reason they are higher up in the company.

I never use sick days.

ever ever ever. Because I'm never sick. I just cant lie about it either. A whole damn week just goes unused each year.

Nextyear they are doing something different. They are giving us our week sick pay as an extra vacation week (so I'll have four vacation weeks instead of three) but if I'm sick I have to use a vacation day or "personal day" I guess is how that will work.

works for me!

I've marched to beat of my own drum for many years....

I had a job ONCE where I had a boss. The outcome of that job was not so good- I got fired! I allowed him to still walk up right afterwards, you'd be a R.I.P in my job history files. :)

YOU get back to work, Bitch Boy! :)

You should be CEO!

i hate when others call out and they limit YOU on overtime. so not only do they want you to pick up their slack they want you to do it at the same time you do YOUR work and not use overtime. shit my last job, one of the many many reasons i left, would let you work extra days that you werent scheduled because of being short handed then at the end of the week tell you not to come in for a day or 2 so they dont have to pay overtime. then when it comes time to actually pay the overtime they say your not eligible because the pay period ended during the week and canceled out the overtime. work week was sun thru sat and paydays were on the 8th and 23rd. the pay period is from the 1st thru the 15th and the 16th thru the end of month. if the next pay period fell during the week you have overtime you don't get time and a half.

is that legal? i thought it was any hour over 40 in a work week not pay period.

I take days off but do my best not to claim them unless my manager calls me on it directly. They always forget how much time you have actually taken off and this can give me an extra week per year sometimes.

Also, now that I'm in sales basically if you're not working, you're not making any money so I work as much as I feel I need to and take time off when I want to if I have numbers coming in.

We are a satellite office to the main office in Ohio. So, they don't know that the other attorney here "works from home" at least 2-3 days a week. He's really hen pecked by his wife who makes him stay home and babysit their toddler...lol. He doesn't get any work done.

I get all the time off I want, since I can W@H... I just come in on days we have meetings or I want to be social. I have the best job ever! Neener neener...

red karma to u 4 bragging....lol

maybe they have a weak immune system, where i work i accumulate sick leave and when i retire it is gone, no payback, so why not use it and get a dollar on the dollar for it instead of losing it

Before I got ill, I never took sick days.
Now that I'm back at work, my concern about taking time off is less.

I enacted a policy at my company paying for employees sick time in December and sick days are down 52% this year. The problem with sick time is that the employee loses it , if they do not take it. Its been my experience over the years, that the same employees abuse the rule over and over again. Thats when you enact selective firing.

do u own your own business? what do u do?

You know - I have been out of college 27 yrs and I think I have been too sick to go to work about 3 times so I have had to start being a little more liberal with the definition of sick. Now I take sick days for the following:

1) Sick of traffic
2) Sick of my boss
3) Sick of my co-workers
4) Sick of getting out of bed

I have been much happier since developing this broader definition.

time for me to start using this policy and screwing everyone else.

I got 80 hours of sick time every year.
