Any Thoughts on Buying Reconditioned Cars?

with modern computer contolled machinery, frame straightening is more easily and accurately done than in the past. quite often a "totaled" car can be reuilt to new car specs......or better.

the biggest problem with "reconstructed" cars is resale. it the title is marked "reconstgructed" ot "totaled" or "junked" ....or words of the same meaning..........you will hard a extremely difficult time reselling it. anyone who knoes tht won't give you a fraction o the book value of the car, even though it might be as good or better than a non-wrecked car,

Is it worth 50% of wholesale?

if you plan on keepin it for a LONG time, and if the repai work has been done correctly, then i would say yes.

just keep in mind it will be hard to sell, and not worth much.

my paretns bought a "reconstructed" buick, 14 months old at the time of purchse, heavy front end damage, it was one of the better used cars they ever had.

they sold it for about 1/3 the cost of a comprable car when it was 7 years old.

Stay away from a salvage titled car!!!!! SOME banks may not even finace you if the title is salvaged(if you need to borrow $$$).

My father in law re-works wrecked cars. I've had seneral of them and NEVER had a problem!

My dad in law has been in biz. for over 40 year's selling these type cars. If they were selling shit cars with problems they would not be in biz. Nor would they be able to go to the many auto sales to re-sell their cars. You also must have a license to buy/sell these type cars. A bad name in the biz. will ruin you!

The gent who is selling this car too you should give you a warranty. Most new cars with a clean title will still have a warranty from the mfg. too. Ask a lot of questions, make sure you have it allll in writing too! Ask him for references and call those references too!

Good luck!

The bike, not a Ninja boyfriend

Heck she wants a sporty and I won't consider that much less a crotch rocket.

Vixen,

Thanks. I would be paying cash for the car so finance wouldn't be an obsticle.
