A friend is going to send some cash to me for my PS2. How reliable is paypal?
MohawkMuscle said:ok..
what about possible reverse charges?

I know alot of bros that use to accept paypal and got screwed.
Paypal sometimes decides to mess up and freeze the account without any notices. Its a really pain in the ass if your on the receiving part.
I rather use Western union or E-Gold. Way better.

I also heard about some horror stories about paypal really messing up peoples accounts and freezing funds. And Im talking about thousands of $$.
That can be a real pain. Thats why alot of people stop accepting it.
This happened to me. Froze my account when I went to transfer the bulk of it (thousands of $$) to my checking for a downpayment on a house. Never had a problem before--transfered $X,XXX each money without a hitch. Paypal freezes accounts for no reason and there are hundreds of these. The allure is the highest paying interest for a money market in the USA, so it was easy to get sucked in. I have to wait 180 days to get to my funds....I do not know anyone that has gotten their funds after the 180 day waiting period.

although like i said...if i were doc and lost a house DP over it, someone WOULD pay dearly. WARBIRDWS6 said:lets not scare the guy about paypal. now if my 20,000 bucks in walmart stock i sold were transferred to paypal and they froze my account so i couldn't pay off the black car and put a DP on my house like i had just done...i would kill someone. but we are talking about a couple of bucks and one transaction. for normal daily transactions...paypal is fine and convenient. i never leave more than a hundred bucks in there at one time. i transfer it to my bank account before it even hits $100 to be safe. and i usually won't use it for over a grand per transaction....and then only with someone i trust not to dispute it. so no prob dude, no cops are going to trace your account and find out if you bought illegal this or that, leave it all blank......just be careful and do it right like i just explained and you will be fine. jesus, alarmists alarmists alarmists.although like i said...if i were doc and lost a house DP over it, someone WOULD pay dearly.

Bro, they are SUPPOSEDLY a PROFESSIONAL money transfer service. Read your posts and all the caveats you've stated about them. I don't have any of those reservations with evocash, western union, real banks, off-shore banks, etc. So why should we have them with Paypal but not worry? Sorry, bud, I HATE Paypal. They are unprofessional, insecure, and unsafe, and I will NEVER do business with or through them again.
Think about it, would you bank at a bank where you'd only keep <$100 on deposit at any time, and have to keep the rest "safe" at your house? Would you use an on-line stock trading service where you only trusted them to hold the notes and you could never leave more than $100 cash in the account?
Anywho, it's all a matter of opinion, I just know what I've had to deal with, and the company is ass. If you DO have a problem, good luck. If you don't, well, I guess you never have to worry about how poorly the company (Paypal) handles things.
