Since my dog was killed we are going to get another one at some point. Are these a good choice with a 1yr old in the house? I'm not worried about the great dane, but the dobbie? any input will be appreciated:D

I always wanted a Doberman. I saw two of them in a park the other day and they suprised me, they were both pretty freakin big dogs. but what was cool, the owner told them to sit on a blanket. and he went off playing frisbe with his son, and they sat there the whole time. I heard they are great with kids, very protective. but then again, I would trust animal with a child.

I have two Rottweilers (check the avatar <----) and they can be great with kids. Great Danes and Dobermans can be too, but the key would be to get a puppy and have it grow up around your 1 year old. It will be much easier to socialize a puppy around small children than it would be to introduce an adult dog to a child...especially if the dog wasn't raised around kids.

I've got a German Shepherd...I used to think he was a fag, but now I know I was wrong after seeing him hump this girl dog (wish I had it on camera, so I could show it to girls I bring home to get them horny). Great dog though.

Good news is that the Kid is already in the house.
Big difference vs having a dog and the baby coming in after them.
Dobies are OK but can be neurotic (sp?)

As for large dogs with a concern of being safe with kids...
Labs/Goldens have the best kid acceptance temperment "Generally Speaking" overall IMO

I used to have a cat so in my opinion you wont need to worry about the kid.

My doberman is nearing 14 years old...HUGE baby around people. He loves kids but does not realize how big he is....lol. I suggest it...

I have a blue healer that does NOT like strangers or kids...lol.

Blue Healers AKA Australian cattle dogs are a one person dogs and will some times nip or bite kids that run around like cattle! But if trained right they can do ok with kids! The best Kid dog is the Staffordshire Bull Terrier aka the Nanny Dog! They love babies and kids and people but they do not always get along with other dogs or animals!

FYI my cat never nipped at or bit kids that ran around like cattle.

AKA PIT BULL ?
or American Staffordshire Terrier ?
or Same thing ?

I had a doberman when I was a kid..

He was a baby, only barked at the lawn dudes and dark skinned people. Around kids he'd go up to them just to sit there and take the damage.

Once he was getting old he had hip problems and would get more cranky but never would bite.

Now other dogs are another story.. he would hold his ground whenever another big dog was around.. a couple times we had to pull him from a friends dobie. the little dogs were never a problem tho

its def how the dog is raised, that goes for any breeds I think though

no this dog is fuckin pampered. always fed and given puppy treats, water, has his own MATTRESS for a bed, has his own room, in the house for the night and throughout the day, a nice yard to play in, toys, etc

i just took him out to piss one day and i looked at him and he started growling at me

I heard Danes have a lot of health problems. Somethig with their stomachs. I still want one though.
