Any of you geeks play Quake 2 deathmatch? (Hardcore geek thread)

We play at lunch over the network at work. I kick ass on these morons. They got a hold of a program that can add in all these other variables into the game. Because of me, they use "Handicapping". Meaning, if one person pulls ahead in the number of kills, their weapons do less damage and a person falling behind does more damage. I still whip their ass.

One of the guys that plays is SOOO fucking annoying sometimes. Almost every time he kills me, he has to yell over the cube walls, "Hey, I gotcha". Which is so lame because I'll kill him about 3x more than he kills me. He's like a fucking kid.

Anyway, I'm bored off my ass and just wanted to know if anyone else played Quake 2. We can't play Q3 because you need a 3d card or video card or some shit like that. And since these are just work PCs, we can't have those. Q2 is the best game out there that doesn't require any special accelerators.

You should toss a flak grenade over into that guy's cube or possibly just walk over to it with the nail gun and permanently attach him to his cube walls like an important memo. everyone here is old so there's no deathmatching going up in hirruh at lunch, wish there was. that shit is fun. makes times go by so quickly. i play unreal tournament at home on my cable modem whenever i have free time - mainly instagib capture the flag where one shot kills the other guy. fun stuff.

I don't care at all if I get killed in the game. I mean, it's just a game. But it gets really irritating when someone celebrates killing me 1 time, especially when handicapping would have made it impossible for them not too. Plus, this one guy always exaggerates on how dramatic of a kill it was. Losers.

Anyway, there was this thread once about sports you're good at that no one really gives a shit about. I guess this is my thing.

I'd like to have a pc at home and a high speed connection so I could test myself against other people. Maybe I suck, but the guys I play with suck even worse.

baby, I'm all about circle strafing. I normally have my mouse look turned off but I have a key on my keyboard I press and hold to activate it. I find it's easier to strafe and kill when I don't have to worry about up and down. I can, but most battles happen on level ground.

I remember back in the days when I thought all you needed was the arrow keys and that mouse look was for quivering vaginas. Then I woke up and saw the light. How do you aim rockets at people's feet? It's all about splash damage when you're running around with the rocket launcher and people's feet are the best target. Meet me out by the flapole at 3pm and bring your computer so we can see who rules. I'm like a living, breathing quad damage machine.

Hell, that's the only place I aim when shooting a rocket. I'm so good and have played so much that it's all second nature to me.

My setup

mouse (optical):
right button - run (always on)
left button - fire

Keyboard:
S - center view
D - strafe left
F - mouse look
G - strafe right
C - crouch
Space Bar - Jump

V and/or B do something but I can't remember off hand.


I look like a concert pianist when I'm kicking ass. Moslt other times, I just look like a penis.

Oh yeah, B is run backwards. Which I do a lot when fighting. People never seem to catch on the the fact that I can fight and run backwards at the same time. Lots of kills that way.

Can you do the 180 spin without losing momentum?
How about the rocket jump?

(since i play instagib and UT instead of quake this is kind of pointless to argue about)
in UT there is a whole added element to the game which is known as "dodge." double tapping strafe left, strafe right, forward, or backwards will make you flip a few feet over whichever direction you are trying to. this is great for popping around corners and laying down the law before the other guy even realizes what happens. and with instagib there's no rocket jumping going on. but yeah when i played with full weapons i was decent at it. UT also has no grappling hook which was always fun for sniping on quake. you all should download the UT demo and play that...i played quake for a long time and UT just blew the mofo away. colors aren't quite as dark and dreary - the levels are all bright and colorful, and you can go on killing sprees. your sprees get announced to everyone else in the game, so if you whoop as like you say you do, it's even more of an in your face type deal.

20 - unstoppable
25 - godlike
