Any experience with acupuncture?

My wife is considering trying it out, i am not really a believer in it, but I have never had it done myself, and some people swear by it.

Does anybody here have any experience with it?

She has joint aches in her hips and lower back. Doctors just keep telling her to take advil

There are 2 very result producing "alternative" medicine techniques for recovery from injuries and elimination of pain. Pain pills just go on forever.
(1) Acupuncture
(2) Prolotheraphy

Both work, but not immediately.

I would support her about acupuncture and learn about it. You might use it someday.

Check with your insurance company first. Some pay, some don't.

Good luck

Yeah, her insurance rocks and covers everything, even trips to the spa.

I am interested to see how this works for her, I think she is going to try it this week. Somebody else also suggested something called 'cupping' where they place some kind of suction cups on nerve centers.

Obviously the pain killers are just masking the symptoms and not solving any problem, so I agree with you, we should try something else. I have never heard of prolotherapy, will type it into google now.

See what Joe Weider had to say about prolo. I know he is a businessman and such, but he was in pain and got relief. Just Google prolotherapy Weider. He says he got 85% pain reduction, which is darn good for feet.

I've used both acupuncture and prolo. Both worked.

i have chronic back pain from a grade 1 spondylolisthesis and cupping had me pain free for a month!! nothing else really worked for me...it leaves ya bruised fo a week or so but well worth it!

In general though some people respond to acupuncture and some dont...my best advice is give it a try and see if it works for her

I have good results when I have muscle issues. My traps and rhomboids lock up pretty bad. Accupuncture helps that. Done it on a few other things. Only continue when it's a muscle issue now.

I injured my wrist a couple of years ago and despite trying to balance in recuperation and sensible training I struggle with it for months.
That's when I turn to acupunture.

Not only did acupunture speed up the process of healing, the whole expereince was soothing and real comforting. I liked it.
It's not mystical nor magical. Acupunture is based on sound scientific principles where its process is therapeutic if given sensible time coupled with a realistic expectation.

I too had wrist tendon problems. car accident. the drugs took the pain away, but that meant that I made it worse as I didnt have pain telling me to stop doing the things I was doing. Then I had limited movement, so off to the chinese doctor for needle work. it happened instantly and gradually got better as the tendons he stuck the needles into healed. The tendons actually hurt for a couple of weeks but as each day past the wrist got better. that was 3 years ago and I still have full rotation and no pain.

I now have a piece of cartilage loose in my shoulder (so the doctors think) that is killing me. Not sure if thats covered in accupuncture, but I can no longer take anti-inflammatory drugs so i will go and see. I cant see it removing it but for lesser problems I give it 10/10

Thanks for the replys guys, it's been a while since i posted this thread. I will suggest these things to her.

My ins comp pays for acupuncture that my chiro does. Would never go to a spa, so who knows if they cover that!
