i have a 92' nissan sentra, the car wouldnt start, unless you push started it. so i thought it was the starter, so i changed it. but now when you turn the key, the starter makes a "machine gun" llike clicking sound. i checked the juice on the battery, and its good. any bros got any ideas? karma to those who does.

How old is the battery and how did you check it?

i brought it to SEARS first, then they said it was okay. then to make sure i checked it with a multimeter, the gauge gave a reading of 12 volts.
i also checked the solenoid when starting the car, and it gave a readig of around 6 volts, is that normal?

I think it should read somewhere around 12 volts if it is a 12 volt system. Sounds like that is your problem. If it's not providing enough volts to engage the starter, the starter will just spin, hence the ratcheting noise.

But I am by no means a car expert.:(

If the battery's good and the starter is new, I don't see what else it could be.

ED - Did you put the starter in yourself?

Don't know what to tell you other than the silly-noid thingy. I'm spent.

take your car to the dealership and have them inspect it. It's around $30 if anything. Once you know what it is then you can fix it yourself.

If the battery is good then it may be a current related problem-remove the positive and negative terminals from the battery scrape & clean really good this includes the battery posts as well. also could be a defective starter outta the box. RADAR
