Getting rather nervous, stressing

Its not good ive been stressing about this big AP Literature speech I have on monday in front of around 400 kids about a poem. I been rereading it all the time and perfecting it.

Ive had a lot of anxiety and stress this year. Only time i have fun is the late nighty partying because I take Ap Classes, Work 30 hours a week, girlfriend, social life.

Beer+ other stuff is a part time cure.
Is there any kind of pills I can take to make me feel better and not to worry so much.

This time I am sure it is in the right forum.

In a few years you'll think your senior year was very low stress. Pills for stress will just get you to become an addict at a very young age.

You need to slow down a bit and enjoy the ride.

Well in all seriousness,
Alcohol is not a good anxiety fix b/c it causes a rebound in anxiety making the situation worse.
Pills are out there, like ativan, xanax, valium but just quick fixes that turn your brain off for a while and have the potential for addiction and work on virtually the same receptors that alcohol does.
Buspirone also for a longer term solution for anxiety but users often complain of feeling "washed out"
SSRIs selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors common ones like prozac, paxil, zoloft etc.. are sometimes prescribed for anxiety but like buspar take up to a month to notice the effects.

Best advice though is to not look for meds to reduce the normal stressors of life, but rather find things that you can do to change the situation in which may be causing the anxiety in the first place, then you wont need pills or alcohol or any other substance to escape the anxiety.

like others have said, don't use beer, and don't look for pills.

partying and letting loose from time to time is important and totally fine, but don't always run to it as an escape.

Instead look for ways to modify your life to reduce stress. Don't drop classes, or stop challenging yourself, but put things into perspective and realize that you are capable and are more satisfied when you keep a full and challenging schedule.

Senior year in college
Another 1-1.5 years to go due to transfer
Carcinoma of left inner ear half-inch from brain diagnosed right before last semesters final exams
Spent Christmas break with surgery in hospital + recovery
Subsequently deaf in left ear
No Christmas break
No transition between universities
Taking advanced E&M course without two full semesters of needed calculus prerequisites
Maintaining a 3.0+ mandatory for grad school
No time for dances, girls, or parties
Chance of summer internship low due to 3-4 weeks surgery to restructure hearing bone and recovery during upcoming summer

And I'm loving every minute of it, because I know it can always be worse. At least I have time to breath; I hear they don't give you much time for that in grad school.

All I can tell you is don't sweat the small stuff. You must tough it out to get the most out of life. Your life is the sum of what you do every day.

There are no victims -- You can take charge of your life.

Do it now

all good points like others have said.

also the SSRI's tend to cause your sex drive to drop. that would add more stress. my personal opinion is never take SSRI's.

also try some type of relaxation exercises once a day. or take up jogging. this helps you breath with your lower stomach(diaphragm). this helps turn on our parasympathetic nervous system. para-what-in-the-hell??? your relaxation response.

but if you insist on medications, this is my experience. i have very low levels of social anxieties which tend to build up in my upper back/shoulder area and it gets tense and stays that way for weeks or a month. so i take .5mg xanax in the evening. but i dont believe in taking anything for a really extended period, so on average i may take 20 in a 30 day period. and sometimes wont take them for weeks until my anxiety levels come back full strength and cause upper back pain.

xanax for anxieties and valium for nerves or stress.

one last point, my dad insist if you watch a comedy everyday this will do a tremendous amount of good. i guess because you laugh with your diaphragm.

Bro learn how to deal with stress without pills.

You start using pills for this kinda stress and you are asking for trouble.

When you are older and real life kicks you in the ass you will realize how easy you had it back then.
