Alrite, heres my story... I was on Paxil, as subscribed by my family doc, for a year. The highest dosage I was at was 20 mg. because I was not being properly monitored at the time. I finally got an appt with a psychiatrist and she has put me on Celexa. The clinic that she works in has been picked by Columbia University to do some research on patients with depression and are trying to treat it with Celexa. She told me that I would have been fine with just uping the dosage of Paxil, but since the meds would be free with the Celexa, why not? From what I understand, Celexa is more for people with severe depression. I am not severely depressed!! I suffer from panic and anxiety!! I started taking 10 mgs. of the Celexa since my doc appt and I have felt like crap!! I'm wondering if I should tell the doc that I'm not continuing with this study and to put me back on the Paxil, or if I should wait it out and see what happens?
Thanks to anyone who replies!!

When it comes to depression, would it be beneficial to have a drug that actually has side effects? Won't the side effects get you down even more? First off they should pay you for this. Secondly what has the doctor told you about you feeling like crap?

Thanks for replying Cure... by the way, does your name have anything to do with the band? If so, I love you!!
The program is called Star*D. I see the psychiatrist every few weeks and also meet with the woman in charge of the trial from Columbia. You have to make phone calls, both touch-tone automated and a representative will call you every three months to evaluate you. You make money everytime you complete a phone call. The program runs in steps, or levels, and if at the end of each level you find Celexa is not working for you they will either add another med, switch the med all together, or add cognitive behavioral therapy.
She had told me initially that I may not get any side affects. I am wondering if it is from stopiing the Paxil? I had tried to stop Paxil cold turkey a few months ago (I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS!!) and the withdrawl was terrible!! And that is what I am feeling right now.
The other things is that I am 20 years old. I don't want to be switched around with meds and stuff( that is if it doesn't work). I have school to go to in a month, I have a life to live!! I'm beginnig to wonder "What have I gotten myself into??"

that sounds terrible... like spin the wheel and pick your med... ugh... i am not in favor of anti-d's unless you really have chemical imbalance. i think docs just kind of throw those around too much.

People react differently to different meds.. It can get frustrating but sometimes you have to try different ones to see what works for you. I tried Paxil and hated it. Celexa is supposed to have many side effects to it. Wellbutrin in known for having few side effects- it is not a SSRI.

If you want a website about all the different meds, and what people think of them PM me.
