Another Japanese question....

Are there any good books to pick up Japanese vocabulary from? Alot of text books I've looked at spend so much time on one topic it's rediculous and don't give you boatloads of vocab(I know alot of people don't like that, but how else are you going to become fluent?). I'm up to knowing around 500 kanji English meanings (100 kanji or so Japanese 'on' and 'kun' pronunciations memorized) and working on learning grammar, but need some help on where to start picking up tons of vocab, right now it's really limited. Any ideas?

Korean is a cool language and it's writing system Han'gul is a amazing writing system, I wish Japanese had such a efficient writing system, but then again han'gul is one(if not the only) system of writing that was sat down and planned out.
