Another GPP ?

A little later today, I'm going to run around with my heavy bag over my shoulder. I've never done gpp work before, so do I go full out and try to run as fast as I can for the recommended distance/time or jog with it?

With GPP it's up to you, depending on what your goals are. You can go for either distance or time, and switch them up every so often. Same with intensity. Short term speed and power or stamina.

If this is your first effort I suggest going for something with moderation. It'll give you a better idea as to what you can handle without burning yourself out the first day.

Good advice. ^^

I don't know that weighted jogging is a great idea; it places a lot of add'l force on the joints (knee & lower back). But if you do it, and it's your first time, LoL, then start w/ a short distance b/c otherwise I think you'll be susceptible to overuse issues. Build to a greater distance.

Frankly, I"d suggest sprints. I do something called shouldering, where you start w/ the bag on the ground, bend over, grab it and throw it up onto your shoulder as quickly as possible. Then immediately throw it down, grab it and repeat to the other shoulder. But you could shoulder it on one side, run a XX meter sprint, throw it down, rest for XX seconds/minutes, and repeat. Should be a nice workout.

Just got back from doing them, and it's a killer workout. Yes it does place a lot of stress on the back and knees. I won't be doing it every GPP workout because of those stresses. I ran up and down my street, which is probably 100-150 feet.. My family says it looks like I stole something and am running away with it ;) Shouldering sounds like a great idea, I'll try them my next workout. Thanks for the help

It's nice to see someone working on active recovery and building up overall conditioning. Keep at it!
