Get a Mac, dude.
Assuming that you have a good copy, choppy video usually means that the video data isn't being processed fast enough. If that's the problem then you need a faster machine or a good defrag on your hard drive. Alternatively, it might help to reduce the screen resolution while you're watching it. Knock it down to 1024x768 or smaller.

maybe, since this is a downloaded copy, the video is already choppy... this happens when the person doing the encoding:
1. Doesn't really know what he is doing (like, next next next next)
2. he has a shitty computer that can't handle the load of the encoding
if the source is badly rendered you are fucked... I have seen my share of those.
Otherwise, I agree with the mean-looking dog up here
