anorexic children...

strongchick

Well-known member
saw the little girl on Oprah eating paper and q-tips to stave off her appetite so she won't gain weight.

Men run the world. A non-sequitur, you say? Not so.

If men weren't such pricks, and men didn't run the fashion world and the media, we wouldn't have this problem, or it wouldn't be as bad as it is.

um, does it escape you that you state this on a male-dominated steroid and bodybuilding board where dysmorphia is endemic?

no it doesnt escape me, ive seen that before and it makes me sick when these parents create these problems for thier kids.

look, if people have issues with this because they see a model or magazine then they need help. why doesnt it affect everyone?

You can't blame the parents. Do you think they actually like seeing their child doing that?

I highly doubt it.

Kids are smarter then you think. They make alot of decisions on their own. But unfortunately, alot of unhealthy decisions are usually made.

I'm sure their parents have talked to them about it----if not, then yes, that needs to be addressed.

Who is on the cover of every magazine? A hot skinny chick. Who are the leading ladies of music/ film? Hot skinny chicks. Get the drift-----if you are "skinny" you get far in life........its a sad world.

Thankgod I don't have that mindset.

you highly doubt it. my point is that parents impose thier own "problems" on these kids. so the kids take on these symptoms. its kind of like when a women has munchowsin(sp) disease. the parents do this shit for attention for themselves.
just like jon boneys mom, she wanted her daughter to do that pagent crap for her own satisfaction. she turned a 5 year old into a supermodel look alike. its sickening to look at photo's of that kid all dreesed up like that, soory i dont agree with you.

If parents stopped letting their kids watch TV, then the kids at school would still give them the TV perspective anyway....

...how many times have you heard kids tease fat children? Sensitive kids might be seriously effected by this behavior, enough to make predisposed children fall prey to an eating disorder.

I think men have exceptionally unrealistic views of what a woman should look like...or....alternatively, our media is run by men who are exceptionally fucked up...

How many of us have known men that are powerful and influential that get off on controlling women?

This behavior quite possibly manifests itself in their work....these men go out and 'get back' at us for their insecurity...."see, you're not good enough to criticize me, woman, for you are nowhere near what the PERFECT woman should be" and then they go out and build fashion empires, magazine corporations...etc.

Our world is built by short, skinny, balding men with complexes.

SB, white straight males are the blame for the world's problems. i thought you knew that.

I never brought color into this.

And by the way, many gay men run the fashion world.

So really, YOUR view of what women should look like is shaped by GAY men.

you don't know what my view of what women should look like. do i want a woman to be soo skinny(those anorexic models)? no, my idea of a sexy woman is simple, monica brant, rachel weisz, kate beckinsale, chyna(wwf), katie currek(sp?), beyonce, and i've seen some sexy full figured women too. i'm not too picky on looks(less picky than most men) but i am picky on certain features. gotta love a great pair of legs. i'd like to see a pic of you SC. i bet you are sexy. bet ya never thought you'd here a conservative say that to ya, but like i said i got nothing against you, it's some of your views i distrust/dislile or whatever you want to say.

i cant even debate this, it turns into the "everything is wrong with our society thread", as individuals you must take responsiblity for yourself.

Blaming parents is not the solution, its just another factor of the problem.

Being thin is "beautiful" and is the recipe for "success" at least in the great USA.

How many times have guys on THIS board, put down over weight women? even chubby women get flamed to hell and back. That's why women are the majority of the eating disorder population.

Its this negative pressure, that brings negative results. Its the world we live in. Kids here all the name calling, and put downs that overweight people have to deal with. Their role models are most likely thin (most people that are beautiful in the media)

You can't blame the parents for it all.....if you want to blame something, blame our society.

Dressing your kid up like a doll is "cute" but I can see how it could harm them in the long run. They learn that they get alot of attention with their looks, and may become dependent on it. beauty pageants in general are bizarre.

ok i agree for the most part with what your saying here, but ive seen these parents on these shows like oprah and its obvious its the parents that perpetuate the problem. im generally speaking about the younger ones.
this is my opinion, if a kid gets the slightest inkling he/she has a problem(whether it be from peers or tv etc.) you should avoid at all cost giving them attention for anything related to the problem. because then they learn, hey im getting attention here, i'll keep it up. and this goes for anything, like behavior problems.
again, this thread can turn into a bashing of men and our society, i just choose to say that if our society is tough, then tough! deal with it cause it aint changing and i promise you that.

p.s. jon bonets mom didnt dress her up "cute", she dressed her like a 20 year old hooker in vegas, you really oughtta look at the photo's. its fuck up.

Come on....let's not blame eating disorders on men...thats bullshit...women have minds of their own and if they're weak enough to starve themselves or make themselves puke everytime they eat then thats THEIR fault....regardless of what they're exposed to in the media...yes everything is about SKINNY hot chicks but to use that as an excuse to have an eating disorder is just plain wrong...

and as far as the kid...YES the parents do play a role in that child's mindset...that child needs to be taken to a psychologist pronto before they grow up with that mentality and carry it into adulthood....

Just to clear this up, I was NEVER blaming eating disorders on anything, let alone men. But it is a contributing factor.

I have had all sorts of eating disorders. I started VERY young. So this topic hits home very hard. I can only speak for myself when I say that many things influenced me. My mom, kids at school, the media, ect. But the main factor was wanting to fit in with the other girls in my ballet class. I wanted to be skinny SO BAD, I was willing to do anything. I wanted to be a ballerina, but I just don't have the body type, even if I did become really skinny.

Things influenced me, but it was MY choice. I knew what I was doing, and I knew it could harm me, but I didn't care. Sort of like people taking steroids.
